Because his career derailed in the early 90's, people tend to forget how good Taylor was in the 1987-1990 period. The prime Taylor would outspeed Tszyu and win a 12 round decision.
That would've been a great fight, but a huge factor in it is Meldrick's considerable pride/machismo. He would have the speed advantage, but he also negated some of the defensive benefits that being faster gave him by trading more than he had to. That isn't a smart way to fight someone with the timing and concussive power of Tszyu. I'd favor Kostya in this one, but it'd be an exciting match.
i agree for the most part but i see taylor nullifying zoos accuracy and power as the fight goes on. it's damn hard to keep throwing punches when you're getting outlanded 4-1. as great as kosta is/was, it takes a special fighter to punch through the flurries and mayhem with the consistency and accuracy to wear the other man down. chavez was that kind of fighter and while zoo is more concussive, i see his workrate dropping in the final 1/3, not increasing as chavez's did
If he simply boxed and not traded, I'd pick Meldrick by comfortable UD. Otherwise, it's probably a repeat of Chavez I.
