    Is he?

Oscar was damn solid at 140, though he wasnt there long.
De la Hoya was awesome at his considerable reigns at lightweight and at welter. I dont think much changes in between.

Obviously you have made up your mind but Im a a huge Kostya fan and I could not in all good conscience say Kostya was clearly better than De la Hoya at 140.

How many times have we discussed this?

ODLH is too big and his chin is too good. Everyone should ignore the garbage about speed and KT. He nailed some of the fastest guys out there; remember no-one is faster than a punch and KT was a great amateur with over 300 fights - ie experience. ODLH would be wary of KT's power because I am sure he has the potential to KTFO DLH. Therefore, ODLH would be boxing, looking for counters and openings. KT would be watching out for DLH's left hook.

Eventually DLH would probably be able to take a few shots and land a few good ones. It might be a UD or a late TKO but DLH will probably win.

Fair post, although Oscar showed plenty of weakness at times as well. For all the times he looked fantastic, quick with his feet and hands with dynamic punching power, there were the times he seemed so one dimensional, so easy to tag, and very flat. Good point about KT and his mixed performances... I still think though he was good enough with his technique and timing to negate the speed differential. He did it to faster fighters then Oscar, although in fairness he didn't do it to anyone with the strength of Oscar.

Agreed, i don't think he is CLEARLY better by any stretch. Still, if i knew a focused version of both fighters was coming in, i would probably (quite reluctantly) put my money on KT, based on what i have alread said.

i think this thread had come up on this forum over a dozen times in my short time posting here. as an aussie im a huge fan of tszyu but i cant figure how kt beats oscar. KT probably had the hardest punch at 140 (his right) for a long long time, but as someone already mentioned oscar has taken shots from mosely, trinidad, vargas, mayorga ect. Oscar has imo a very decent chin so kostya's power wouldent of troubled oscar as much as people think. would of been a classic fight though, shame it never came off.

Could go either way. A slight edge to Oscar (53 - 47).

But at 140, he's facing one-punch KO power from a guy whose timing was good. Zab was a more talented fighter with more skills than Kostya and he was taught the chicken dance. Oscar's chin is better than Zab's but it onlt takes one such shot to start the beginning of the end.

Most people thought that Zab Judah would beat Tszyu when they met, and Tszyu utterly destroyed that belief in 2 rounds. I remember reading a boxing magazine article where the author, who was a fan of Tszyu, said that "speed kills" and would have to favor Zab in the fight, but Tszyu proved otherwise.

From a hypothetical standpoint, it's hard to determine who really would have won. Tszyu is a fighter that DLH had never met, a boxer who punches strong on both hands, targets the head and has good body shots, and who applies a lot of pressure but at the same time patient and intelligent. I don't think Tszyu would be walking backwards against DLH. Likewise, DLH is someone Tszyu had never fought against, someone who is tall with quick hands and good boxing skills. DLH also has a good jab and left hook.

    Two of my favourite fighters.

DLH wins. Bad styles for Kostya.

The slow arcing left hook would have left Oscar's noggin vulnerable to the straight, laser-like Tszyu right bomb.

In all likelihood, DLH would have won, no disrespect to Tszyu who was a great fighter in his prime also.

    :huhTszyu=OVERATED

Oscar spanked Forrest in sparring while both were on the Olympic team.

Oscar has a very quick and deadly hook(at 140)

Oscar has better footwork and is the much bigger fighter.

Oscar has a great chin, and most big punchers break down mentally when the shots that used to ko people are not doing so and are receiving return fire in the process.

Kostya was power happy by the time this bout would have come about and his arrogance would have been his undoing as it was when he faced a much lesser fighter in Vince Phillips.

Oscar at that point, learned the finer defensive techniques from Rivera and they were on full display in his bout with MA Gonzalez.

Oscar by boxing lesson and brutal ko in the later rounds

Oh and btw, Oscar gassing in the later rounds at 140 is as big a myth as Kostya being a ATG.

    Oscar wins, UD

Kostya was good against the smaller guys, but DLH is pretty big and strong. He also has speed, a great jab, great hook, good enough defense to avoid getting tagged to much and his chin is solid.

I think its just a bad match up for kostya. I cant see him winning the rounds for a UD and I also cant see him getting the KO because DLHs chin was pretty good.

Well Oscar needed to go all the way up to 160 to find someone that hit hard enough to stop him. He is bigger, faster, and at 140 (I know I am going to get **** for this) hit harder than Tzyu. Anything Tzyu can do Oscar can do better. Oscar by late rounds KO

Overrated Tszyu would be KOed late in the fight. Oscar has every physical advantage and was just as skilled.
