Padilla had just retired when Tszyu became champ at 140 a year after. I think had Padilla not gotten hurt in training that forced him to retire early we may have seen him face off against Tszyu. How would this have gone had Tszyu and Padilla fought in the 90s? This would have been the ultimate power puncher vs volume puncher match up and I think it would have been a great fight.
Padilla suffered a major injury sparring with Shane Mosley. Zack was a very good fighter but I’d have to favor Kostya
Flo, I remember this being a potential matchup I was excited about but it never got to the point where it was likely as Padilla retired suddenly. Padilla was good and it would have been a real contrast in styles but I think Tszyu would have won handily - fun while it lasted though.
Tszyu did lose to two fighters who swarmed him and threw alot of punches Phillips, Hatton. But the difference is Padilla was just a volume puncher and he had no power. So whilst i think Padilla could make it interesting with his volume punching and aggression, i see Tszyu just being too good overall and he should be able to stop Padilla in the 2nd half of the fight.
