Hell, this was a good fight. Maidana tried to impose his physique on Kotelnik but the Ukrainian fought back and beat the Argie with effective counterpunching in the first rounds. Maidana went all out in round 9 and had Kotelnik badly hurt who then started to trade with both clocking each other...the championship rounds were more of the same...Kotelnik prevailed 115-114,115-113 and 113-115 to win via split decision. I had it 116-112 for Kotelnik...please give me more of those fights this year!
Maidana is rough and seems to lack stamina for his assault for a full round. He lose some steam in the round ending. The third round is great.
Yes it was a damn good match. I didnt really know what to expect, as I had never seen Maidana fight, and only saw Kotelnik once or twice. So I was quite pleased with the performance of these 2. And the right guy got the decision, which is always good. Im glad TSN decided to pick this card up.
Sounds like a hell of a fight, and I was looking forward to seeing Maidana step up in class...I'll have to try and track down a copy of it in a few days.
Would anyone who has seen it want to tell us a bit about the two fighters? sean? Did you see the fight?:?
Kotelnik is good technical boxer. Winning his fights on decision outclassing opponents. Maidana is a puncher. He's quite young. He's offensive fighter. His defense is not good. He never fought opponent on Kotelnik technical level. It was his first twelve round fight. Tom Tocca summarized the fight quite well. As to me Kotelnik outclassed Maidana, got the better of him in exchanges and if Kotelnik was a puncher fight wouldn't go the distance.
