Who's making excuses? I've just said Ward was having his best round and had landed the best punch of the fight with the right hand. But, facts are fact the stoppage was premature and the finishing blows where illegal. A bit like the Rigo punches being classed as on the bell.
Just give Ward his props and move on. He solved Kov and many here didn't think that he could and thought that Kov was indestructible. The same was said about Margarito. Nobody is indestructible and skills always pay the bills.
solved him? one judge had kov 3 up going into round 8 LOL, kov should have been given 5 mins to recover and the fight goes on
From what I saw, the last shot hit on the B on Kov's shorts! Look at Kov shorts when he is upright. The B is below the belt line. Purely academic, Ward was going to finish Kov sooner or later. But the way Weeks stopped it, robbed Kov a chance to come back and tarnished Wards win! I'm just happy that all the Kov loverboys are pissed! These guys are on a diffrent level of hate!
A stoppage like this hurts both fighters! Weeks should have, at minimum stopped the action and give an 8 count because Kov slumped into the ropes. What he should have done is give Kov ample time to recover, take Ward to the side and say, next low blow is a point deduction or just take a point away.
It's crazy all you need to do is get inside his jab and work his body, and his gameplan goes out the window. But TBF not many people can neutralize his right, like Ward did. Also, Ward really let Kov off the hook quite a few times, specifically at the end. Once he landed the first body punch, and Kov bent over, he could have pivoted into a left hook and knocked Kov out cold. Or step back then fire a right uppercut, or cross to the temple. Those body shots were hellacious though.
its not about being a Kov fan. its about recognising a bad stoppage when you see it. the other stuff doesn't come into the fact the ref stopped the fight in favour of the guy executing a foul. regardless of who was on top etc, the stoppage was bad.
I don't get that way of thinking. So Kovalev was going to lose, so might as well end on a bad stoppage, who cares? he was losing anyway lol boxers have a lot to face following your rules. its a question of fairness. A fighter is in a fight until it is over, anything can happen. I am not saying Kov would have come back, my opinion is he probably wouldn't have but that's irrelevant. as a fighter he had the right to get stopped legitimately, otherwise anyone on the back foot should be pulled out?
The problem is you saw fouls and the ref didn't. And Ward solved Kov. Kov wasn't winning the fight and we all saw how the fight was going. It was just a matter of time.
Fair enough. And you are right. I'll go a different route. Same situation but there is a question 8f the receiver was in bounds or not. Whether the ref calls it or not, the play is automatically reviewed to be sure to correct call is made. REGARDLESS of how the ref called it. If the player was out of bounds, the TD is called off. In this case, the NSAC should review the final sequence, see that the final blow landed was in fact an illegal low blow and change the fight to a NC. It won't happen, but it should.
Boxing doesn't have instant replay and resumption. The NFL doesn't rule the game no contest and they admit ruling errors every week.
Yeah man, right on, they shoulda stopped the fight after Wlad knocked AJ on his ass, it's clear that the dude was done, regardless of what happened afterwards.
