Ward WAS better in many ways.

Kovalev was also better than the first time round.

The second fight was everything it had promised to be, other than that awful referee.

 

We get carried away sometimes and forget this is entertainment. Fighters often say things to generate interest. This is how you should handle yourself when it's over no matter what was said before the fight. Respect to Kov.

I don't mind the jab at the ref. It was an early stoppage.

 

By going my way you mean the rules? Because I didn't mention anything other than the rules and how NSAC didn't follow them. Bob Bennett, the NSAC president said that the last blow by Ward wasn't low when vast majority of boxing fans thought it was low according to polls. You don't need a PhD to decide whether that shot was low or not. He even blamed Kovalev for headlocks, yet he said that all of Ward's questionable shots landed on the beltline. You may not think that Bennett is biased like a mf after those comments, but I do. The second story is indeed different because Bennett actually said that the IV administered for Maywather at his house and giving him a TUE after that were "totally unacceptable" yet he refused to take any actions against that. So it wasn't really different in that sense that Bennett protected the A-Side fighter in both cases and ignored the rules.

Thanks for sharing that story. Believe it or not, I have a similar story to yours even though it will be completely off topic. My grandfather fought in WW2 (not on the Allied side), he became a prisoner of war at the end of WW2 and was brought to Austria where he was very fortunate, because he had the opportunity to choose between an American and a Soviet PoW camp. He chose the American one because he didn't want to get mistreated by the Soviets (you know, gulag and stuff like that). Since we got occupied by the Soviets right after they liberated us from the Nazis, my country became communist after WW2. And because my grandfather chose to be in an American PoW camp instead of a Soviet one, he was labelled as "enemy of Soviets" and an "anti-communist" (in fact he didn't care about politics) so he could only do hard labor for 10 years after the war - things got less hardcore after Stalin died though. No moral to this story (maybe despite that I still supported Kovalev? lol), but I thought I would share this after you shared your story that was similar to mine.

 

In most peoples eyes kovalev was heading for a loss in that fight but to say he was totally done in a bit much, he got wobbled with a good right and would have probably made a good fight of the last few rounds, especially since that last ward shot was horrible, some of them before that were not great either. He would have been ok with the break he should have got after the fouls and then the round break. Now we will never know because of that idiot ref.

In most peoples eyes ward also lost the first fight, so there should be a number 3 to settle it properly, with a proper ref who is willing to enforce the rules and not allow another farce like this one to happen. The ref should not be american by the way nor all the judges, cant really understand that myself, there is usually a mixture of nationalities in a lot of big fights, not for ward tho :-;;;;

 

I actually don't know enough regarding the Mayweather fiasco to provide you with a good rebuttal. In all honesty I firmly believe all professional athletes have dabbled in some sort of illegal drug, as to their effects who knows? I cycled once just to see what it would produce and I hated every moment and couldn't wait to remove the toxins from my body....I consumed water and took milk thistle for days.

My thoughts regarding your grandfather are simple he was genuinely good man that did what he was told just like my father. Most men of that generation lived under the influence of bureaucrats and their personal agendas. Conceptually speaking I could extract positive aspects of every governing system other than maybe a monarchy lmao! I'm glad you shared your story War is never pretty and the soilders involved aren't given enough credit regardless of the cause they are fighting for.....it's a thankless job.

Kovalev legacy is secure in history. He won't go down as greater than Ward, but he will go down as a great fighter.

And will probably go down as the only man to beat a prime Andre Ward.

Since when have official decisions always been fair? Of course they will side with Ward, the judges, the referee all sided with Ward twice now, What makes this any different considering the circumstances? The judges arent the only ones that follow the money, or are corrupt. Kovalev was on his way to winning a UD on most peoples scorecards BUT the judges, lol, and not surprising since the judges are pro Ward.

Looking at how the fight was developing you're confident Kovalev was on his way to a UD win? That is very optimistic, aggressively optimistic.

 

I said he wasnt going to get it, because Wards judges wont allow it. But it will be similar to the first fight where Kovalev got screwed over on the cards.
