Where were the times that a good scrap up like that pulled 30 million viewers worldwide, and the bigger ones even a couple of times that? Big events like Tyson vs Spinks were watched by virtually everyone in my class, even if it was broadcasted at 3:00 am. If you hadn't seen it you got to hear it for about a week after the fact.
I'm sure I recall seeing someone post the numbers for the super 6 final between Carl Froch and Andre Ward a while ago and they were a lot less than that, like almost or even 50% less. Froch is Mr Excitement, and no one knew squat about Agnew.
To be fair, Froch/Ward was on Showtime, which has a much lower subscription rate than HBO (though I think they've narrowed the gap a bit recently).
Ward vs Dawson only did like 1.3 and HBO gave that the "PPV treatment". They did a 'Face Off' and a '2 Days' feature for that one.
It would be hilarious if Stevenson-Fonfara did worse. I'd love to hear the excuses from Stevenson/his supporters that Kovalev's not a big enough draw yet.
Kovalev will soon be outdrawing Ward just like GGG. No wonder he has been talking crap about both of them.
