considering that Agnew isn't even known to the Yanks, even though he is one, and an undefeated one at that, these numbers are pretty damn good. now could you imagine the numbers he'd be getting if the bigger names of the division were to find the courage to fight him? much better than the numbers he got at the weekend that's for sure. i think Kovalev is coming along nicely.
I i recall right, a fight with some Germany-based fighters drew over 4 mill viewers in what most of this forum would call a "euro thrash fight". So, US & A is not the place to become a "main stream" superstar anymore?
That is a great thing for Kov! Hopefully it will mean that HBO will stop paying him peanuts and start opening up their wallets for him. If they would have opened their wallets earlier they would have secured the Stevenson fight, but they got out maneuvered by SHO once again
Not even close to being factual. According to showtime they are in 23 million households According to hbo they are in 28 million households.
How so? Stevenson wanted HBO to match the Showtime offer without giving a guarantee he would face Kovalev next. All they would have done is give him nearly 2 million for a mediocre fight then have him run off to Showtime anyways going after Hopkins instead.
Now Showtime might offer way less money to Stevenson for a big fight (against Hopkins) after the Fonfara fight. Stevenson will have to accept since he won't have anywhere to go to. He might be fighting a big lucrative fight for peanuts.
HBO is the giant in this fight with Showtime. It dwarfs Sho's ratings on a consistant basis and will always get the last laugh.Sho's bosses at CBS certainly are not smiling these days.:deal
The money isn't the only thing I'm wondering about. According to the IBF's rankings website, BHop's IBF belt is scheduled to be defended July 26th. It will be interesting to see what happens there. The IBF has made exceptions for unification fights before but the WBC isn't exactly unification friendly. Just because Stevenson ran away from a Kovalev fight doesn't mean the Stevenson v Hopkins is a sure thing.
Apparently I was wrong. Thanks for the correction. So Stevenson's next fight will need to draw approximately 850 thousand viewers to be on pace with Kovalev's HBO ratings.
They don't want to understand it. Supporting their ***ual predator, scumbag hero is far more important than facts.
