Imagine if Haymond and Stevenson had pulled the stunt Cathy and her boy toy pulled this week. Last year when Stevenson went to Showtime for financial reasons all we heard from posters on this board was coward this, ****** that. Where is the outrage from you so called fans against Kovalev and his promoter for denying the fans the privilege of having a unified light heavyweight Champion .
Actually, the purse bid would have meant a 50/50 split in this situation. That's the same split Duva is calling for. I can't really blame Kovalev for this. Boxing politics are messing up this fight, and Duva was trying to play games.
HBO played the role of spoiled brat and insecure spouse. They knew they couldn't outbid Mr. Haymon and his hedge fund investors, and won't let the fight happen if it's not on their network. This is why Ms. Duva immediately stated she sent a 50/50 offer for HBO PPV. They should've called Mr. Haymon's bluff and allowed him to pay a princely sum for the rights for this one fight. They just couldn't stand the prospect of another network getting their darling fight, though. It wouldn't look good if their showcase fight got sniped, now would it? Or if the payday was large enough that it gave one of their showcase fighters second thoughts about staying with them? We see this dynamic in domestic disputes all the time. If they can't have it, nobody will.
I read the letters posted over the scene, and clearly GYM did not want to negotiate. Not saying it's a duck, but they wanted the fight to go directly to purse bids, knowing full well they would win it. If I were GYM and really wanted the fight, I would say yes for HBO but split 60-40 or 55-45 and top billing.
Stick to what you know best, Pac/Mayweather troll threads. You don't know shi.t about the financial aspect of boxing. Please can someone educate this idiot on how purse bid works.
