According to Compubox. And those are fairly typical numbers for him in his last several fights. :scaredas::scaredas::scaredas:

That is an absolutely blistering pace. And Kovalev does this throwing more power punches than jabs, though his jab is basically a power punch too.

Hopkins wants no parts of this. He can't deal with that kind of volume and power at this stage.

Anyone who thinks that Hopkins would beat Kovalev, tell me - where is Hopkins going to hide from all those punches? Where's he gonna hide? On Kovalev's chest? Hopkins was on his back foot against Calzaghe nearly that entire fight, and compared to Kovalev, Calzaghe's punches have no power at all.

Also, because of the slapping form of Calzaghe's punches, Hopkins was able to smother and avoid a lot of them. Kovalev doesn't punch like that. Hopkins would have to get through a hail storm of very hard punches to get inside on Kovalev. I don't see the old right hand + jump in with the head low working here.

Hopkins refused to fight Kovalev, that's why Kovalev fought Cleverly. He did not want to wait forever. Hopkins lost to Dawson! Kovalev would kill Dawson!!! Kovalev is the best light heavyweight in the world, he beats them all..............

I've got massive respect for Hopkins and his achievements.

Honestly, I don't want to see that fight. A 50 year old man, master boxer though he may be, has no business facing a machine like Kovalev. It's the volume that will make Hopkins look his age, but it's not just that. Volume punchers aren't supposed to hit that hard, and power punchers rarely work the body like Kovalev does. He's about the worst matchup for Hopkins you could make at this point in his career.

Kovalev completely shut him down. 20 seconds into the fight and Cleverly goes into a shell.

As great as hopkins is he is 50 year olds or near damn close to it. Kovalev is very skilled and places is punches very well. Like the TS said he sets a blistering pace throwing non-stop powerpunches and he hits you anywhere gloves, shoulders, forearms. He makes sure his punches land on you no matter where it is. He was hitting cleverly a lot on the arms and those hurt and wear on you.

I don`t think hopkins can keep up with that pace and that body standing up to the punishment kovalev dished out. I would still love to see it as hopkins is a legend and it would be amazing if he somehow beats kovalev.

IIRC in the first round of his fight with White, Kovalev threw 59 power punches, with 29 of these landing.

Not true. Hopkins chose to fight Murat (why?) instead.

Thats the thing, but if thats the case he needs to reitre. If he wants to go round bashing people up with the big boys, he needs to fight the Stevensons and Clouds, not the Fonfara's etc. :)
