He tried to win, actually. Because Kovalev was OK to win (even if not on the official cards) and to be robbed. That's it. In a fight like that (just imagine this old Kovalev but with better stamina), if he only lasted and boxed the full distance, a lot of people would be crying "robbery!" and a rematch with Canelo (another $10+ million) would be a possibility.
Discussed already... In short: a) throwing power shots burns a lot of stamina; b) he tried, but didn't like how Canelo was responding to that (with speed and power).
Industry folks have to jump on this forum whenever they need a good laugh. Some of ya'll have no knowledge, insight, or conviction. It's easy to do with the internet as the medium. But you'd think you'd have to nut up every now and then. I guess not.
Every single training camp will severely deteriorate Kovalev from now on and accelerate his decline. **** genetics and a bad lifestyle have caught up to him. Life sucks.
Does the same criticism apply to Rigo? Rigo never took a single hurtful punch against Loma before he decided to pack up and go home after 6 rounds. He barely threw a power punch either. Kovalev was never going to quit . He was boxing to win up until he was stopped. Canelo actually had to work hard to win and it showed in between rounds. Imagine if Kovalev had suddenly quit after 6. zhit would really have hit the fan then.
btw i just read interview of Danny Jacobs coach, who have parted ways with him and he said Jacobs changed himself after signing contract to fight Canelo. He was dissapointed in Danny cuz for him it looked like he didnt want to win against Alvarez. Is Canelo winning fights cuz he gives huge paychecks and ruins their determination and hunger? hahahhah
The only disgrace I see is his fans clinging to ridiculous conspiracy theories to mentally cope with the disappointment of watching their favorite fighter get knocked out. Canelo is very good and kovalev is not what he used to be. Accept it and move on.
He is not a disgrace. He is just Washed as the Americans would say. In other words shot. A couple of months back he almost came unstuck against the inexperienced Yarde.
Alvarez didn't even do much and Kovslev was dead tired after 6 rounds. If his stamina is so poor that he can't even throw anything but light jabs for 5-6 rounds does he even train? I'm not a pro boxer, I'm older then Kovalev and I can throw harder shots for more then 5 rounds. The pace of the fight was very slow as well. Kovalev is 36 and not 40. This shows he hardly even trained for the fight. Probably was just drinking for a month. He looked much better vs Yarde.
