Recent form/resume consists of Fonfara, Sukhotsky and Bika with the promise of some guy Baker in June. Overall resume puts him behind Hopkins, Kovalev and Pascal. The only thing keeping him at the top is the lineal system which has proven itself to be deeply flawed.
Well I'd go further than those three fights and as far back as he won his lineal title (add Dawson, Bellew, Cloud). So he's got a pretty impressive last six with fairly dominant performances. Hopkins and Pascal don't have any belts, have been less active, really haven't beaten much better opponents and most importantly received losses in the same time period.
Imo his form is the Fonfara, Sukhotsky and Bika fights imo, recent is 2014. Not holding Pascal and Hopkins loss against them when Stevenson blatantly avoided the same fighter they lost to, you don't get rewarded for that (well you do, but you shouldn't, that's boxing). Anyhow, more to the point would you pick him over Kovalev, Hopkins, Pascal and Beterbiev? because that's what we're really asking here, not who has the best record but who is the best at this point in time, subjective granted but there is usually a majority when such questions are asked.
I'd probably pick him over Pascal, Hopkins fight is a bit of a toss up for me and I'd pick Beterbiev to beat him. I'm not a big fan of ranking fighters like that though, I think it's better to rank them by what they've done rather than what I think they'd do, but it's just opinions in the end I guess.
I wouldn't pick him over Pascal tbh, good fight though. Hopkins schools him, he has way too much skill for a one-handed fighter. I hear you on the rankings, I prefer it your way too but there's too much being able to hold onto rankings by avoiding certain fighters. Quillin is a good example, if he fought Golovkin, would he be top 5 now? I seriously doubt it, and he's top 3 mostly thanks to a '0'. Thread was pretty subjective from the outset.
My top 10 1- Kovalev 2- Pascal 3- Hopkins 4- Stevenson 5- Beterbiev 6- Brahemer 7- Fonfara 8- Chilemba 9- Campillo 10- Caparello
If by gate keeper you mean a guy who stands behind his gate and won't fight anything dangerous on the other side of his gate, then yes, a gate keeper.
This. Beterbiev takes straight punches to the face with no head movement. Kovalev would make quick work of him.
Kovalev was wooden leg in the boone fight lol. If Beterbiev tags him he's out...did you see when Kovalev was rocked to his boots in the amateurs against Beterbiev..he ran and ran and ran...he knew he wasn't tired .he got stunned and also he couldn't stand toe to toe ...Beterbiev slaughters Kovalev no problem
