Hold my hands up here got this completely wrong.

But I'm trying to figure out is cleverly worse than i thought or is kovalev better?

After kovalev did nothing didn't expect him to do.His compact and hits hard and is in your face.I still think what frank said after the fight is bang on he can be convincingly beat by a boxer with movement.

Which brings me onto clev.mentally he was all wrong and his tactics were a shocker.the flicking jab could not keep kovalev off him and as soon as felt the power he was a wreck. Its not just the fact kovalev sparked him its that he won every single round!

clevs granite chin nowhere to be seen and his movement was an absolute shambles!

Obviously the fight that stands out for me is kovalev v stevenson in terms of excitement but id love to see him face either hopkins or possibly even pascal to see how good he really is preferably hopkins.

interesting to ee what others think.

Knew Kovalev would destroy him, only people who were picking Cleverly is his fans

People are too biased when it comes to predictions which is why so many get it wrong

Kovalev is legit world class Cleverly just isnt that good he needed to fight better competition to improve instead of getting chucked in with a beast

I'm no huge fan of cleverly but thought he would win the fight.

but thats my point is kovalev legit world class?after all only 7 fights ago he fighting grover young who at the time had a 5-4 record hardly the match making of a superstar especially given his age.

Sometimes its not about the opponents its just the way they throw their punches and their power etc

Kovalev puts his punches together well Cleverly is there to be hit, was only gonna end way because Cleverly's chin was only gonna hold up for so long

People look into peoples records and opponents too much

Its the same when people said Matthysse wouldnt stop Peterson he couldnt stop Zab, Peterson is there to be hit and Matthysse has improved

Cleverly was there to be hit and Kovalev is just a beast

I picked Cleverly but it was based on the fact that Kovalev had never gone the distance,I thought Cleverly might be able to weather the early storm and take him to the late rounds. He just couldn't handle the power though and crumbled,Kovalev took him by surprise I think. As soon as he felt the power he wanted no part and it was just a matter of time.He never once got on the inside and try and work his combinations electing to stand in range and let Kovalev unload.Standing in front of Kovalev throwing a half arsed jab,I wonder who's idea that was.

    Anyway

Fair play to Kovalev he done exactly what he said he would,no nonsense type of fighter who lets his fists do the talking. You gotta love it!

I knew that Kovalev would knock Cleverly out. Cleverly did not have the power to keep Kovalev off him, plus Kovalev is the hardest puncher in the light heavyweight division by far, but he doesn't just have power, he has stamina, boxing skills, etc. Cleverly is good boxer, but was not good enough to compete with Kovalev. None of the other light heavyweight champions can beat Kovalev either. Hopkins refused to fight him. Kovalev will knock out all the other light heavyweight champions, plus Ward...........

The fight went how myself and most sensible people thought it would. Plus like I've also said previously, even without the power, Kovalev is a vastly superior boxer to Cleverly.

I was surprised at how weak Cleverly looked and how big Kovalev looked, every punch was rocking him to the core and Kovalev was actually outworking him, from the very first punch of the fight he looked scared and all he had was a flicking jab, he was completely out of his depth

From what I've seen, I reckon Kovalev is truly world class and given half a chance will come to dominate the LHW division. So, to answer the OP question - no Cleverly is not crap, Kovalev is simply devastating boxer and style wise probably the worst oponent for Nathan.

P.S. My predction before the fight and vCash bet was on a clear win for Kvalev.

Clev was worse than I anticipated. Kovalev has decent fundamentals and very good power obviously but he's a fairly straightforward fighter.

Cleverly had no plan at all, did nothing to make his life difficult, and it was over once he tasted the power.

i thought it was gonna be way more competitive.. expected Cleverly to take advantage of his much faster hands for a couple of rounds and at least that he'd try to push Kovalev back. Instead he just stood in Kovalevs best punching range like a heavy bag with no movement, got gunshy and let Kovalev do whatever he wanted. The fight was pretty much an image of Kovales previous fights on NBC and didn't reveal anything new about him. He just came in, did what hes used to do, collected Cleverlys paper belt like it was a beer in the supermarket and moved on..

Would be interesting to know who Cleverly sparred for this as well, clearly had never been hit anywhere NEAR as hard as Kovalev was connecting on him. It was writted all over his face after the first.

Uh...neither, in my case. I knew Kovalev was going to destroy Cleverly. :conf

Cleverly is no worse than I thought nor is Kovalev any better.
