You know that an athlete and their team are lacking motivation when they get done for doping, but even more so with something so simple as testosterone. All top level athletes are on the hot sauce. I am sure some of those in this thread still believe in Santa.
You know that the moment for retirement has arrived when you have to PED the hell out of you in order to fight a guy with 6 fights. Kovalev is shot to pieces since long long ago. EDIT: I really enjoy hating on him, I'll actually miss him when he retires.
I'm 99% sure he didnt do anything up untill recently, he's clearly not had his heart in the sport and we know his issues with substance abuse, he probably thought it would make training and staying in top shape easier without having to train as hard
Kovalev was scary when he was champion. He's very beatable now though. Sorry to hear he's doing PEDs. But he's not getting back to what he was with or without them.
Russians and Caucus people with his genes (Avar, Tatar???) age like sh*t....and that's without the booze.
Agree. PEDs may well have plugged his stamina problems and may have chiselled his physique to boot. He's always looked a bit soft to me for a guy that had a reputation as a hard man. If we're looking at results, I don't see the effects of peds in his earlier career.
Indeed. Just another old, shot fighter trying to turn back the clock by cheating. B-Hop hid his PED useage well with Mackie Shilstone as he moved up and he also had that HBO protection. Kovalev has no such political protection. Once you're washed up and done, you are persona non grata and no longer welcome. Kovalev can probably still fight in Russia though. His countrymen will still get behind him. The American money is finished though.
Its a cultural issue that posters choose to ignore or deny. State sponsored is shameful. WADA initially ordered a 4 year ban but the Russian government appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and was awarded a less severe punishment. The strange part is that Russian athletes can still participate in international competition as "neutrals. With the word "neutral" displayed on their uniforms no smaller that "Russia". Their national anthem cannot be played or or sung. Wonder what deals were made to soften the blow.
