I think Ward has the skill to outbox Kovalev. I would be shocked if he can KO him....I know Kovalev can KO ward. This one comes down to how well John David Jackson can work with Sergei at cutting him off and setting traps.

Ward and Hunter don't feel the same. Thus the need for tune ups to drag out the fight as long as possible.

 

The infighting is what's going to cause the knock out in favor of Kovalev, I have a feeling in order for Ward to avoid being dropped, he would have to be on his bike for 12 rounds and risk losing a decision. It is a lose-lose situation for Ward.

In order to get inside Ward is going to have to risk getting tagged every time he tries to close range.

Also people are forgetting Kovalev whilst not the fastest fighter has a great sense of judgement regarding his footwork. Whoever regards Kovalev as some straightforward slugger should be ashamed of themselves.

It's going to be a great fight, but I can see Ward winning yet slowly getting broken down and then stopped late.

Someone said he can rough up Kovalev on the inside. No. Just no. The most Ward can do on the inside is smother and hold. Even then Kovalev with his bigger frame will walk him to the ropes. Ward will have to be super focused to be able to sustain 12 rounds of boxing on the outside, without getting tagged, even to the body.
