Kovalev could well be the best opponent Hopkins has faced since Pavlik

    When you are talking about this fight and who's the favorite, you gotta remind yourself as it is right now. Hopkins haven't fought a skilled opponent in Kovalev probably since he faced Pavlik & Calzaghe. He did beat Pascal, but Kovalev in my opinion could well just be on another level than Jean Pascal. This is why it is among the must interesting match ups in 2014.



    Where would you rank Kovalev among Hopkins opponents in the last years? :bbb

    It's actually difficult to say how good Kovalev is, he hasn't had the platform yet to show anyone.

    He's obviously the biggest puncher Hopkins has faced, ever. He has a great amateur background which he will have learned a lot from.

    This is why the fight is so exciting.

    He could be the best since Dawson or the best since Sir Lord MBE Baron Calzaghe of teh Whales.

    I know he isnt as talented as Calzaghe so that is the furthest back I can go.

    Saying that I believe him to be more dangerous than Joe which is different to being better.

    Well then explain why he lost to Pascal, got stopped by featherfisted Ward, got KTFO by Stevenson & lost to a nurse??? Dawson is good, but overrated

    1) Kovalev
    2) Dawson x2 (prior to weight cut and mental ruination)
    3) Pavlik at 170lb catchweight
    4) Jean Pascal x2
    5) Beibut Shumenov
    6) Tavoris Cloud
    7) Enrique Ornelas
    8.) Karo Murat
    9) shot to **** Jones

    Note: styles make fights, so that list doesn't reflect how much Hopkins actually struggled with each guy. Ornelas and Murat gave him more problems than better fighters in Cloud and Shumenov.

    It's insane how people push this under the rug. Chad Dawson is the "only" person I have ever seen Bernard reluctant to fight. Bernard has never gone out of his way to not fight anyone like Chad. Regardless of Chad's recent endeavors.

    prime dawson is the one that stands out, but ko4clev is not that far behind as you would think. and of course taylor. calzaghe is not far behind these two either.

    I just don't see how you can rank Kovalev above Dawson at this point. Dawson had mixed with more experienced fighters and had some good names on his resume.

    I'm not saying Dawson is better just thats we don't know yet.

    IB, i'd rate Pascal over Dawson. Jean has only lost to Hopkins & Froch, no shame there.
