Kovalev couldn't knock out a 50 year old man.

Hopkins is a 50 year old man, and this guy Kovalev was supposed to be a killer. Sure he battered him at the 12 but he didn't knock him out. Hopkins showed that even at 50 he is a defensive minded genius. His only problem was that he couldn't be as offensive as he wanted to be. By the way, this is not taking credit away from kovalev, he is a great champion. However, prior to this fight he was regarded as a killer and he failed to show that marvelous killer tonight.

Hopkins has an iron head, and rolls them punches well.

Sergey KRUSHER Kovalev still punches atomically, nuclear fists.

Hopkins deserves that credit, wow hes tough. but tough isnt what he wanted to be, he thought it was going to be easy i imagine, and He got schooled.

In a way its a better win than an early KO. No one picked him to win every round. and going 12 rounds can only be good for his career. i did want the KO but i see the pluses from tonight.

He couldn't do so because this "50 year old man" could take a punch better than the others. Just stop the age **** already.

KO'ing Hopkins is like KO'ing Mayweather. Probably harder since Hop throws less and isn't looking to win a decision as emphatically as Mayweather.

Hopkins pretty much was in there to survive.
He loaded up every once in awhile to see if he could get lucky, and even with Hopkins survival plan he got battered.

Stick that tongue out again Bhop!

Indeed schooling Hopkins over the course of 12 rounds is a better win than an early KO.

Nice alias. Kovalev can KO fighters but skilled survivors are not really fighters. The pathetic punch output Hopkins had pretty much tells us he was not fighting. John David Jackson called it spot on when he said that once Hopkins felt Kovalev's power he would be wondering what the hell he got into.

Kov could've picked his shots better to be sure but I can't hate on him for that alone.

When a defensive master with a chin decides to fight to survive instead of fighting to win, good luck KO'ing him.

This will do Kovalev more good in the long run than if he'd knocked Hops out instead of just knocking him down in round 1. He'd get more hype had the KO happened, but getting 12 round experience is crucial.

    That is a true statement.

Here is what happened. Kovalev hurt Hopkins in first round. Once Hopkins tasted his power he went into a shell and fought strictly to survive. Kovalev having never been past 8 rounds showed brilliant reserve not going for the KO and end up gassing. He clearly likes and respects Bernard but everytime Bernard opened up he got hurt. Kovalev was content to cruise to win with a boxing master class. If he wanted to he probably could of really hurt Hopkins. But assessed that it was not worth the risk.

I picked a Kovalev comfortable UD. People expect stoppages far too often. Hopkins is one of the greatest defensive fighters ever and has continued to show that with his age, so nobody should be expected to TKO him... As they say, you're only as good as your last fight. And Hopkins was a great defender who looked insanely hard to hurt against Shumenov, so the expectation for anyone to stop him is difficult. Credit to Hopkins' chin for eating so much, but that's all he did in that fight. Still has good speed, honestly.
