Remember this type of nonsense that was circulating just a few short weeks ago on these forums. Wonder how their opinions have changed after last night? Sure doesn't take much to implant yourself on the modern fans mind.
How do you see that fight going down? Would Mikey catch him while behind, would he just be too big and strong from the beginning?
Knew this post was coming. Alvarez and MSM are apples and oranges, technically and stylistically. And Kovalev is 35 and clearly on the downswing of his career.
How many fights removed from his career best performance against Ward the first time? This is the first I've heard of Kovalev being on the downswing. Pretty sure the narrative before this was that he was actually better, more focused and fitter than ever.
When Saad was Kova's age he was getting stopped by powerhitting Markus Bott. A little perspective, please.
I’m not sure that Ward I was his career best performance. But in any event, at least two of his former trainers claimed that he imploded and became untrainable after Ward I, he isn’t getting any younger, his last two opponents were nothing to write home about, and his reflexes looked noticeably dulled to me against Alvarez.
I think when you add everything up it's clear that Kovalev is an A- Level fighter, extremely dangerous and powerful with substantial flaws. I honestly think he's closer to glass cannon territory than many would like to admit. A wonderful offense, jab to the head and job, and right hand but his durability and mental make up don't match his offensive arsenal. His chin is clearly B-Level, if that, and that would always be an issue against other A-Level fighters or hard hitters.
It’s possible. But glass cannon or not, prime Kovalev would have landed some very serious leather on Saad’s head and face. Maybe enough to hurt and stop him. Not saying I’d pick him to win but the outcome is far from obvious to me.
Age is a measurement. It is quantitative and objective. No, it is not the end-all, be-all but to deny it is intellectually dishonest. You are smarter than that.
Nah, Saad stood up to sustained output beatings that Kovalev doesn't half have the gas to do. You seem to think Kovalev could completely negate Saad through his boxing without ever being hit or bothered by Saad's own legendary offense.
But isn’t that kind of a knock against Saad? It’s not really Kovalev’s fault that he only sustained a small fraction of the punishment Saad suffered during his prime.
Kova is definitely earned the title of frontrunner. But he has been a very dangerous frontrunner. And it seems his run is over.
I was under the impression you were as well, but you know what they say about assumptions. I don't even have to ask that you're a massive Kovalev fan and clearly still emotional from last night, there's no other reason one would compare Saad at his absolute worst to a Kovalev who was clearly in fine form. I really have no further interest in semantics and word games with you though, have a good day.
