Kovalev started following Ward around in the 2nd half of the fight even though Ward had to come to him. That's a tactical mistake. Not going to the body more earlier was also a mistake for Kovalev. Relying too much on his power and aggression to carry the rounds was a mistake.
He stopped jabbing after 4 and neglected the body the whole fight. He has nobody to blame but himself. Needs to stay focused and patient. Work behind his jab and invest in that body every opportunity he has.
I didn't trust kov to fight a smart fight even though I felt ward has lost a step or two. The fight was a draw man. Good fight though.
Yes, he was running out of ideas after the KD. He abandoned the jab that brought it. Word in the gym is Kovalev doesn't listen to anyone. Ward was there for the taking and he screwed up.
Actually, Kovalev fought fairly intelligently throughout, barring a few lapses where he got away from the jab, which is something he's been known to get away from when he loses focus or becomes fatigued.
