Well, we will find out in a week or so :bbb

Just from a promotional angle, the line Hearn will take to bring out the crowds is "After KOing his domestic rival, now Froch facing the most dangerous man on the planet"

Though universally known in the UK, Froch is far from universally loved. Need to get his fans and haters interested. :smoke

I grew up in my fathers boxing gym, Hundreds of kids went through that gym and the hardest hitting of anyone by far was a 160 lb kid that wasn't really muscular or tall, but he just had a way to leverage his shots.

My father who has trained hundreds of fighters, says that he has never had a heavyweight that could match that power. The kid won nationals, but never went pro.

I agree that Kovalev could not know whether he or GGG hits harder unless mutual training partners have told him so, but it is certainly POSSIBLE that GGG hits harder than him.

    Nathan Cleverly

“Kovalev is a massive puncher; each punch is like being hit by a sledgehammer,” Cleverly said. “He sparked Ismayl Sillah clean out in the second round – he was completely gone. He didn’t do that to me, he shook me up and I was in no position to continue really, I was drunk from the punches and I have got a great chin, so he does hit hard and he’s probably the most dangerous Light Heavyweight out there.”

Were you surprised by how hard he hit?

I suppose I wasn't surprised because with his record it was inevitable that he was a banger and every shot he threw was a thudding shot. It was like a hammer. He wasn't rapid fast, he had good timing, good distance and his punches were just so hard... His jab, his right hand. Just when he caught you on the shoulder he would have an impact and he was just clubbing me. He just clubs you with his heavy hands and he's the type to just club you into submission. That's his aim. To club you until he puts you down. I just kept it tight early but I knew, after taking a few of his punches, I knew I couldn't afford to be caught with a shot on the chin. I knew that. I remember thinking in the first round, if he catches me clean, I'm gone. I remember thinking that.

Yeah. I did think I would be able to take it but I knew, I knew – and especially from the first round – I knew if he caught me clean it was highly likely I would go. Even the shots on the gloves and the shoulder, the impact was really heavy. It was clear to me from the first couple of punches that when this guy landed I would be in trouble.

Kovalev is an animal of a puncher''

    An old post of mine

Lionell Thompson (sparred Froch, fought Kovalev)

    ''No one hits like Kovalev''

    Darnell Boone

'KOD: Who is the hardest puncher that you have fought?

Darnell Boone: The hardest puncher was [Sergey] Kovalev. He knows exactly how to use his height and leverage with punches. He keeps you on the outside, away from getting on the inside on him. He fights tall.

    Cornelius White

“His power is unreal,” White said of Kovalev. “I've never felt that power before. I've fought heavyweights, cruiserweights and I've never felt that before. And they weren't bricks. It was steel.”

Interview with former Kovalev victim Lionell Thompson. Thompson has sparred against a who's who of the LHW and SMW divisions from Chad Dawson (who he bashed up), Bute, Froch, Pascal Troy Ross, David Lemieux and numerous others too. He said every shot Kovalev throws is heavy, even the ones on the arms and gloves hurt.

'Ola Afolabi said to Sky Ringside “I think it’s going to be a knockout. The guy [Golovkin] hits incredibly hard. I’ve been in the ring with heavyweights, cruiserweights, light heavyweights, and I get in the ring with this kid and every time he hits me, I say whoa''

Ryan Coyne (former CW now LHW)

''He’s a f__king beast,” said Coyne, a 20-0 cruiserweight prospect who has recently dropped down to light heavyweight. “He’s been running guys out of here. Nobody under 175 pounds will spar with him.''

“I’ve sparred with heavyweights who can punch, including Mariusz Wach and Mike Perez, nobody has hit me as hard as Golovkin. His power is out of this world.”

''I spent my summer up in Big Bear training with Gennady Golovkin who is emerging as the most murderous puncher in the boxing. I watched former champions, light heavies, cruisers, and even heavies get sent home.''

    David Imoesiri HW

“The dude can hit, I’m still getting used to it,” said Imoesiri, who like Coyne, is delightfully bright and articulate. “It’s crazy. I sparred with [undefeated WBA heavyweight beltholder] Alexander Povetkin and he never hurt me like this guy.''

“I must have done 50 rounds while in camp with Povetkin and it was three and half weeks before he hit me with something that made me hold on. With Golovkin I was ready to get out of the ring 45 seconds into our first round of sparring. He hit me with two lefts to the body in the identical spot and had me doubled over. I got through it but it’s hard to defend against 6-inch punches with that much pop. He backs me into a corner with just a jab.

“And it seems like he does it effortlessly.”

"The guy hits like a hammer.

Yeah, the promotional potential is big and I like that promo line. Froch's floundering back and forth with "Will I fight him or will retire?" could be hyping up the fans' and media's appetites to a fight he's already agreed upon behind closed doors. That would be great, but I'm not sure.
A lot of guys mention GGG just to get attention, but if Froch is retiring the attention doesn't really profit Froch much, so I think he's legitimately considering the fight. I'm very skeptical, but I'd love for the fight to get made. You're right, we'll see in the next week or two.

Well if it isn't true then Golovkin's chin must be very solid to be able to walk through the shots of a guy who hits harder than himself and drop the guy

The best indicator of punching prowess is actually the 1 punch KO.

This is why Hearns is a harder puncher than Julio Cesar Chavez p4p despite having a lower KO ratio.

GGG has Ishida(never stopped), Geale(Never stopped), Rubio(Survived Lemiux), Bute(still on his feet after 100 clean shots by Froch), Macklin(single body shot), Simon(withstood Abraham for 12 and previously never stopped).

Kovalev does not have a single 1 punch KO to speak of at the world level.

I have little doubt Kova hits harder than G.

    p4p? Sure, maybe G hits harder p4p...

but reality? Kova being gracious and humble doesn't change that I think its actually silly to think G has more power than him.

Put Murray in with Kovalev at 175 and he wouldn't make it 11 rounds, put Ouma in there with Kova he doesn't make it 10, and Rosado wouldn't make it to the 5th let alone the 7th and stopped on his feet.

As a matter of fact, GGG 1 shotted Kovalev too in sparring.

    Advantage, GGG
