Only just found out Kovalev took 2 mil while Ward took 5 mil. Now don't get me wrong do I agree that the champ should getting the lower end of the purse, hell no.

Kovalev set GGG the example that sometimes in order to cement your legacy you have to take risks and make concessions . He couldn't get a fight with the guy he was chasing Stevenson so he took on a p4p former super middleweight king who was moving up. Put his belts on the line and had to do it whilst all the judges were the same nationality as his opponent.

Hopefully this fight sells well so Kovalev can get more money and a chance to win everything he risked back in the rematch.

For the MILLIONTH time, NOBODY wants GGG.

BJS? Said he'd rather wait until GGG was 38 until he faced him.
    Quillin? Ducked him.
Jacobs? It's looking likely, but he didn't want ANYTHING to do with him pre-Brook.
Canelo? He's got the MW titles but wants it at 154!
Cotto? Would end interviews when GGG was mentioned.
Lee? He'd face him, but he's massively inactive at the moment.
Lara? Always make noise when GGG has a fight SIGNED!

You have to realise, and I know it's hard for you to digest, but this has been happening for YEARS now.

Martinez & Sturm wanted nothing to do with him years ago, too.

I was VERY surprised that a man that was known for avoiding the best (Brook) wanted to take him on.

Then again, fighters are outpricing themselves when GGG is mentioned.

Kovalev also isn't as big as a boxing star as Golovkin is at the moment. 2 million may be a lot for him right now and he probably also got a part of the PPV percentage. For the Canelo thing the 10 million is the big talking point, but because we heard about that more than the PPV split it is indicative that the split wasn't to be that large. Also, a lot of times in the entertainment industry, your management teams controls what contracts you sign a little more than you do. Although you are their boss it is in their best interest to make sure you get the best deal they see possible and they will often impose their will on you if they see that you are about to make a bad decision. It's a business.

people claiming GGG cops flack due to his race but even ward supporters respect kova.. hell he got done for being a tad racist and people still love him, balls of steel

"ill fight anyone from 154 to 168"
if you going to make big claims that you are being ducked and saying things like i just quoted then you have to back them up

I fully agree his division doesn't want him but Degale says he does, Ward wanted him, Lara says he does.I would rather see him take on those guys than a Wade or a Johnson. I'm not here to bash GGG coz he has been ducked by most his rivals but what I will say is when others have stepped to the plate like Ward he seems to start making different types of demands than he does with easier fights.

I can appreciate what your saying it makes sense, like I said do I think from a business side Kovalev got the best deal? No but he took a risk and thats what I respect about him, he didnt try and make loads of concessions or price himself out, his management didn't impose their will on him. He was confident about beating the other guy and coming out with more bargaining power for the next fight so he took a massive gamble but if wins the rematch his legacy is cemented now.

But GGG wants to UNIFY 160. How can he do that fighting Degale?

Other than Kovalev, when did Ward step up to the plate? When he drained Dawson down to 168?

No, he can't, and unification of the titles at 160 lb is a worthy goal so I don't bash GGG for trying to do that. But, to be honest, winning a title at a higher weight-class would be more impressive considering DeGale or Zurdo Ramirez are both a bit bigger than GGG.

Kovalev was the biggest risk Ward took, but he did fight everyone at 168 lb minus Bute who didn't turn out to be much good anyway.

This is what I mean about being great, Kovalev wants Stevenson belt to become undisputed but he realised I ain't getting that fight for now so let me move on the next big fight and saw Ward was moving up.

Dawson was the one who said he would take the fight at 168, That would be the equivalent of me criticising GGG for not fighting Brook at 154 when Brook was the one who accepted to go to 160. I can't criticise GGG for that so you can't criticise Ward.

I believe stepping to the plate is being unified champion against great fighters like Froch btw

He is undisputed MW Champ you dumbass.. Unify?? Are you for real??

This chump is so scared of a challenge he was to go for two WBA belts at 160:drooling:

Why take Kovalev out of the equation.

Other than David Lemiuex , when did GGG ever step up... See how stupid that sounds now?

To be fair Dino his not undisputed yet till he gets the Wbo belt. But I don't even consider a David Lemieux a stepping up to the plate, it was a necessary fight coz he had a belt but it's no step up and if it is then Ward stepped up when took on Green, Bika, Abraham, Kessler.

I actually think it's the Canelo payday that's stopping GGG from moving up, more so than the ducking BJS. But ... Canelo really screwed GGG, pretending he'd fight him after Cotto and then dragging it out until Sept. 2017 now.

He might not deserve the same praise / hype as some of the other p4p fighters, but (unless you hold him to his big-mouthed trainer's words) he doesn't deserve the bashings he gets on here either.

    IBF+WBA+WBC= Undisputed.
Officially he needs to beat Canelo , not Billy Joe Suanders. And Canelo's claim as the Lineal MW champion is as shallow as a puddle of rain water. Whats so great about chasing that fight?
Plus ,he isn't getting that fight next year. GB will drag it out till 2018.
Its in GGGs best interests to move up and tackle the champions at 168.. Pick up on a new era. Create a new chapter in his career.
He's run his course at 160. Nobody wants to see him fight more and more bums while waiting on fights that aren't happening.
