"The rules and regulations should determine what a fighter is, more so than opinion," said Holyfield, who first became undisputed heavyweight champion in 1990 with a three-round stoppage of Buster Douglas.

"Whatever the undisputed champion means is that you are the best if there are three belts and you've got all three belts, then it is undeniable that you are the best fighter in that weight division.

In boxing, the undisputed champion of a weight class is a boxer who is recognized as the world champion at that class by each boxing organization. There are four main boxing organisations currently, WBA, IBF, WBC, WBO. In the past there were only three and two. Depending on the time of the history of the sport you would need two, three or four major organisation belts at the one time. And of course in the distant pass, there was only one belt.

    Criteria:

1920-1963, a boxer who held both the NYSAC and NBA (WBA) titles simultaneously.
1963–1983, a boxer who held both the WBA and WBC titles simultaneously.
1983–2007, a boxer who held the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles simultaneously.
2007–Present, a boxer who holds the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO titles simultaneously. By February 2007, all four major organisations were recognised by each other.

Uh oh, uh oh, see you are wrong here too. Hopkins and Taylor both held all four belts :deal:

Previous to the 2007 ruling where WBO was made a major organisation, recognised by all guys like Jones, Bowe, Lewis, Judah and Holyfield all were undisputed champions as they all held the required three belts which was the requirement. If they had achieved this in the current day they would not be recognised as undisputed champions. The undisputed champion criteria thus states Golovkin is one belt shy of undisputed status. Saunders holds that away from him.

Nice quote. As Holyfield says, if there are 3 belts and you have them you're undisputed champ. However in today's Boxing there are four belts and using Holyfield's wisdom:

"Whatever the undisputed champion means is that you are the best if there are four belts and you've got all four belts, then it is undeniable that you are the best fighter in that weight division."

We could but I used Kovalev because he was the champion making the concessions to guarantee the fans a great legacy fight which GGG hasn't done so far.

Hopkins was undisputed before he beat Taylor. Taylor became undisputed because Hopkins was. Get it?

That criteria seems to be drawn up by Wikipedia.. Since when is Wikipedia a boxing organisation? They don't even get the records of fighters correct.

Say GGG beats Saunders. Who is going to recognise him as the undisputed champion?

He didn't say 4 belts. He said 3 belts. And that quote is from last year.

Gullible people like you wouldn't know jack about real jobs even if you tried. The fact that you're buying into this "undisputed 160lbs paper champion baby!" says enough about your stupidity.

You sneakily didn't post the rest of the quote though didn't you?

“But if you choose to fight whoever you want to fight and you say ‘I’m going to waive this belt’, then it takes something away from the game of boxing.”

“He has never been an undisputed champion, but he claimed to be it,” he added.

No ,you sneakily changed Holyfield's quote .. He said 3 belts.

He is talking about Mayweather . Mayweather was regarded as the best at 154 but he only fought one guy at the weight. Holyfield basically said he'd be undisputed if he had 3 belts there instead of two.
Golovkin never 'waived' anybody and has collected 3 belts.
Canelo is of far greater importance as he is the lineal MW Champion. You think Saunders is more important. You are wrong.
Ring would recognise GGG has the undisputed lineal champion after beating Canelo as would every boxing publication on the planet.

You're so painfully wrong it hurts. Golovkin beats Canelo he is the unified WBA, IBF, WBC, The Ring and lineal MW Champion. You simply cannot forget the WBO belt as it's a quarter of the divisional title. Golovkin and undisputed cannot be in the same sentence until he gets the WBO belt whilst holding the three belts he has now.
