Kovalev has only 3 rounds to KO Ward due to his poor stamina

Kovalev is a boxer-puncher in the first half of a fight, but the longer a fight goes on the more he turns from boxer-puncher to boxer. Because the power fades as he tires. He still punches hard all 12 rounds, but it's not the savage power from early in a fight.

 

Kovalev will always have stamina issues, it's not necesserily overtraining, every shot Kovalev throws has mean intentions, it takes a lot out of you.

 

I mean some guys with supreme stamina levels can maybe pull off throwing hard shots for 12 rounds and not have their power dissipate but Kovalev doesn't seem gifted the same way.

 

What fighters LHW or bigger have been able to throw bombs for 12 rounds? I know guys like Margarito and Pryor could just go on and on and on and it just never stopped, but those were smaller guys. With smaller muscles and less mass and didn't require all that oxygen to keep on going.

 

I mean Froch springs to mind for one (yeah I know he's 168 but really he's pretty much the same size).

 

Kovalev needs to avoid those chunky body shots from Ward if he wants to conserve some stamina in the 2nd half of the fight.

I've been hearing and reading some stuff lately. Not sure. But he's going to drink vodka during the fight to help with stamina and confidence or something? I dunno. Interesting tact.
