Ward has the better offence too. Just not one punch KO power, but he has the wider and more diverse offence.
Rope a Dope was definately what brought George unstuck......Ali knew he had to try something....and making big George and making Big George angry and getting Him to punch himself out worked perfectly.....Kovalev would be unwise to go into this fight with a Fighter like Ward and not have some kind of plan "B" because I am sure Ward and His Trainer would be doing there Homework.!!!
Exactly why I pick ward. Kov needs to use his jab on the outside and stick the body and be patient. None of that rushing in and headhunting.
Its called adaptability and spontaneity in the ring, Kovalev is sharp as a tack and makes on the spot quick adjustments, his plan is ever evolving which is the perfect strategy when facing someone like Andre Ward, you can't come into the ring married to one strategy against a guy like Ward, my whole article on this match is based around this premise. Another flexible guy that would make needed adjustments and was never married to plan A or plan B was Calzaghe, which is what made him impossible to beat as well.
Rest assured both of their teams likely have very complex gameplans. Kovalev may not have devised it, but John d Jackson certainly has one. do both adapt in/round, of course, but there is a well thought out gameplan
