Kovalev has nothing left to prove, he should retire.

He beat Ward the first time round and lost to an illegitimate decision the second time round, even though he would have eventually lost.

Really it is 1 - 1 yet a decider is a waste of time because there will never be a level playing field when facing Ward. Which is one reason why I believe that Ward is finding it difficult to secure his next fight.

Not many will be queuing up to play chess with a cheat

It's got to stick with him that he got a Chad Dawson-esque split vs Andre while Andre makes more for those fights than Kovalev's entire career. Meanwhile, he gets to sit back and watch Golovkin, who got his break here in the states about the same time Krusher did, blow up because GGG's promotion was light years better than his was.

He gets chronically underpaid from Duva, but sticks around out of loyalty and because it was still a pay raise from his old deal, which paid him in handshakes and ham sandwiches. PBC fighters are making twice the cash for half the difficulty. Meanwhile, she undermines him when he's clamoring for the Superpimp fight when it came time for purse bids, and politics screwed him out of the fight that he'd really viewed as his career defining one. All this while GGG's selling out 2 coasts and Krusher's still having to play the road warrior Glen Johnson route.

Then...he faces an entitled fighter like Ward who's had the breaks, only to lose a controversial decision. His trainer talks behind his back with Andre's camp, which probably did wonders for the paranoia. In the rematch, he just cracked when the low blows weren't enforced. Andre, diva though he may be, is a hell of a fighter, and that was the tipping point for Krusher. He may've well reached the "F it" point with the sport.

If he plans on making a go of it, the first call he needs to make is to Haymon so he can go the Erislandy Lara route. Lara makes more money fighting bums now than he ever did facing house fighters. See if it's not too late to get on that gravy train. The dude's earned some easier paydays.

He's 34. That's when a lot of boxers hang 'em up. He could carry on for another year or two but after the Ward fiasco he won't be as motivated and probably won't make anything like he could have financially. So he's faced with either a Beterbiev/Stevenson fight or making peanuts and probably not getting another shot at the title while Ward holds it.

Sure he's bitter but he should get back on it and work his way back up,no shame losing to Ward and to be honest the margins are usually much wider.
This is why I'm liking Golovkins attitude with his upcoming fight,he's said if he lets it go the distance he doesn't deserve to win and whilst I don't like that fact it's kinda true and he and Abel knows it.
Kovalev after dominating round one and two should of looked to finish it but let's be honest Ward did amazing to turn that round albeit in his unpopular fashion

Come on man he should have koed Ward early in both fights. He should have known him being a straight white male and Russian he would not get any breaks in the USA. His only chance was to KO Ward and he failed. He should have claimed he was gay and he would have won both fights. Straight white males and black Republicans catch hell in our country.

That being said he still has a lot left in the tank. He should not retire.

I lose respect for guys who quit after getting beat once (or this case twice).

It's like the bully who get's shown up who then goes and cries to their momma.
