Kovalev undressed Bhop tonight. He fought at Hopkins' pace and still managed to keep Bhop at bay with good ring generalship, foot spacing, head control, constant jabs to the body, and simply not allowing Hopkins to close in too much distance on him and smother him. He also didn't allow Hopkins to mount any sort of attack because he would step out of range when Hopkins would try an attack or land a punch forcing him to reset. He also did a good job of not smothering his own attacks even if he did throw combinations that weren't always on the mark. He was patient and calculating; he had Hopkins broken down by the middle of the fight, and I actually thought he was on his way to a stoppage if he would've turned the heat up ever. Great technical display from Kovalev

He was quicker than hopkins in Mind and Action. Sergey KRUSHER Kovalev is as sharp and as skilled as they come, with the power of a nuclear bomb.

Great post and terrific analysis of the fight. Who would have thought a guy like Kovalev with that kind of power could have the patience and boxing savy to out box the great Bernard Hopkins? Sergei Kovalov is a great boxer puncher with old school skills. He is destined for greatness.

Good post, but no acknowledgment of his handspeed? I thought he showed really good coordination, timing, and fast hands on top of everything else you said. He was definitely ready for the big stage.

I don't think his hand speed or coordination were that good actually. He managed to trip over Hopkins on a few occasions, and put himself way off balance when throwing combinations. He didn't look particularly fast to me he just did a good job throwing at good times.
