Kovalev just outboxed the best boxer of his era

I tied to support Ward. This is someone that is half Irish gypsy.So I tried to like the guy. Im sorry but its painful to watch him fight! He runs, holds, is very light hitting, uses his head as a battering ram, hits and holds. Every fight is the same dull, track meet slash wrestling match. And he sure as hell didnt win.

 

Ward won a close fight. Kovalev is a good fighter who had a great start but Ward came back and took it. He ended up hurting Kovalev and bloodied his nose. Effective body punches as well.

See, the problem here is, if the judges scored the fight correctly, with both eyes open, at least ONE of the last SIX rounds would have been scored for Kovalev, as almost all scorecards have him winning.

Because of their hometown bias, this didn't happen. In doing so, overruling a draw or a potential win for Kovalev.
It stinks, because both of these fighters deserved to win. Without the knockdown I think Ward deserved to win, if not a draw.

Because of the knockdown, I believe Kovalev did enough to win OR it was a draw.

Boxing scoring sucks man. It overshadows the whole event for 2 great fighters. People will forget about the fact that these 2 stuck to their guns and fought against the best in the division during their prime. No diva ****, no discussions for 5 years about rules and regulations. They got in there and did it. Which is amazing in this day and age of boxing.

 

And you along with many said that Ward would 'school' Kovalev in a shutout?
Neither happened. Both fighters showed their strengths and troubled each other. Appreciate the damn fight for what it was.

It was great to see 2 of the best, in their primes trading shots and fight plans.

I don't think he got a boxing lesson, although Ward got most of the last rounds. However, that doesn't negate that Kovalev had most of the rounds and a knockdown in the first half. Just doing good in the end isn't a criteria for winning a fight that's scored round by round. I think the result was fine, but I was more inclined to see Kovalev winning by like a point. But don't try and pretend that Ward put on a clinic since he didn't do anything special and just scraped some of his rounds.

 

This fight is PROOF that Andre Ward isn't just a boxer. This is why I say he's the most complete fighter since Ricardo Lopez. He taps into different styles.

 

Credit to Ward for surviving and making some rounds close but he just has no answer for Kovalev. Nobody beats Kovalev at light heavy he is a true ATG.

 

Kovalev is a complete fighter if ward had some power to his punches it could have been alot more interesting.

 

Just finished watching the fight. My final score was 8-4 Kovalev.
With the KD it was a definite Kova win. IMO it was a clear robbery.

My final prediction was Ward on points by the way.

 

Lopez never hugged or backtracked like Ward does.

 

Yet he lacks power. And has done at both weights he's competed at.
