I was watching the Pascal fight and I saw this John David Jackson dude trying to tell stuff to Kovalev and it was pathetic. For first Kovalev doesn't understand English very well which is the only language Jackson can speak I imagine. He can't give any in depth clues as to what Kovalev needs to do and just keeps saying stupid stuff like "You're doin' good, be smart, blah blah". Kovalev didn't need too much advice for the Pascal fight but he might need it against Adonis or Beterbiev. He needs a coach who understands boxing and can speak Russian, which I'm sure there are plenty of coaches suitable for that position. What are your thoughts?
Well he's just motivating him probably, they seem to work well together and have a good understanding.
Well I wasn't suggesting Kovalev should fire him, he can work with multiple coaches now that he's a champ making big money.
The only coach Kovalev needs is a fvcking great big luxury one with a waterbed, and a great sound system to take him to and from fight venues.
Naw i think they are a great match. Jdj really knows the finer points of the game, and is vastly underrated as a trainer. Plus he able to show kov the nuances of dealing with slick american fighters in a way a russian trainer cant. If someone like bhop can give him his props for his boxing iq, you know that it is well deserved. Glad hes finally getting his long overdue recognition.
Jackson is one of the better coaches around. I personally would not want too many people talking to me in the corner between round. Keep it simple. He didn't need to give any advanced instruction on the fly. They prepared in the gym and for the most part it worked. The one wrinkle was Pascal's flatout physical toughness. Krusher would have finished most of the division early with the punishment he dished out early to Pascal. Remember Pascal did not earn his way to a title fight by being a pushover. It was pretty good fight.
