No way does he outbox Hopkins. If Kovalev can't make his power count he will lose wide on the scorecards. Bookies also have Hopkins a strong favorite to win if it goes the distance. I personally can't see Kovalev offering anything different enough to what Hopkins has dealt with before in order to be the first man to stop him.
I do, frightening KO power, that's something that Pascal, Dawson, Shumenov, Cloud, and Murat did not possess. And its been a long time since BHop fought RJJ and Taylor, who's KO power may have been overrated as well.
I agree. Kovalev does those useless head slaps when he gets tied up. He will struggle to land clean. I have said he probably gets a headbutt while attempting to go to the body. This fight has a high likelihood of sucking beyond belief.
Power means *nothing* if you can't find the target and Hopkins has arguably the best defense in the game. Kovalev is too limited to land cleanly on Hopkins.
kovalev doesn't need to land clean on hopkins.kovalev's glancing blows can knock you out he just needs to really let his hands go against hopkins don't give him a chance to breathe.
Kovalev fights in the typical Eastern European style. Slow, front foot heavy with poor defense. So yeah, Kovalev is crude...
So Kovalev knocks over a few TOMATO CANs and you think that what he's learned from taking out the trash will be good enough against elite competition? LOL... So, how many of you Noobs got any vCash to put on Kovalev?
I like how according to people on here, if you're not a slick, defensive wizard, you're a crude slugger. Kovalev and Golovkin have good technique, it's just more subtle than that of say, Floyd Mayweather's.
Hopkins is going to counter the **** out of Kovalev. In this game there are TWO things you need to do in order to win: control the distance and get off first. Hopkins is a master @ both and I feel comfortable in saying this is where Kovalev is at best average. Anyone who thinks Kovalev can outbox the ole man is delusional. Even Kovalev's camp knows they can't outbox Hopkins. I believe their plan is to rush the ole man and put pressure on him. The problem with this strategy is that Kovalev will be open to counters and the ole man will take advantage.
Was Kovalev displaying "good technique" when he let himself get knocked down by that TOMATO CAN in his last fight?
