even though he has two consecutive losses, he needs to get his old groove back. He has 2 to 3 good years left... if he fights 2 times a year he can get 6 decent pay days but most of his fights need to be money fights and of importance. His next opponents should be: Alvarez, Stevenson, Beterbiev, Bivol, Smith. He should only deal with the top 5 in the LHW division. What do you guys think?
Who's gonna pay him? HBO and Duva have already proven that they can't or won't put big money behind him. He can't sell a PPV. His guaranteed purse for this was ZERO. Fighting for percentage of a low-sell PPV. Here's how negotiations for his next fight go: Kathy Duva: No purse for this fight, but good news, Sergie baby, you get 100 percent of the PPV this time! Kova: But this fight not on PPV. Duva: You're catching on.
yea ward's promoters lost millions on this fight. at least duva made a little money. Im not sure about Kovalev. He was very competitive in both fights but I dont know if his heart just wasnt as in it yesterday. He should have focused less on ref and if he was being hit low just hit ward back low to even it up.
Yes I think it will draw in some fights for him instead of wrestling matches... I hope we can see the original Krusher Kovalev again Ina nice clean boxing match...
Kovalev was KRUSHED last night. His whole aura is gone. His career is in shambles after last night. Sure he may fight again but he's never going to be the same fighter he was before he had to deal with SOG. He's gonna have a hard time recovering physically or mentally from last night. He got the **** beat out of him.
It'd be a surprise to me if Sergey can come back and reach the levels he did prior to meeting Ward. For a puncher with a bully mentality, getting roughed up and beat up can often be devastating. He's no spring chicken either, and his promotional/trainer situation appears to be an absolute mess. I definitely expect him to grab another belt at some point, but I think he'd have his hands full against the up and coming light heavyweights like Gvozdyk, Beterbiev, Bivol, etc. Stevenson certainly has the explosive power and timing to spark Sergey clean out, as well (as much as I despise the guy).
Kovalev cant get Stevenson in the ring and other fights are no big money fights and risky ones,so he needs third match with Ward or to retire,im big fan but he has nothing left, imo he quitted against Ward,no point to continue like this anymore. So either retire or change promoter and trainer and so on,might be too late for that tho.He can still knockout cold most opponents that dont fight dirty. For me he just quitted against Ward ...have to say it again and repeat myself,Ward is dirtiest fighter ever and Kovalev was well aware of that and yet just gave up and quitted. Also fought the wrong fight.Very disappointed with him honestly. Still Kovalev won the first fight easily by winning 8-9 rounds + a knock down and got robbed.Had to fight dirty as Ward in the 2nd,even get a DQ himself instead quitting and laughing after the fight. All he did was jab and some pathetic attempt to fight on the inside which was waste of energy.Stil cant believe it,very upset about this fight.
I wouldn't send him that way, Stevenson knows he can be hurt and Stevenson has one of the best left hands in the business.
Stevenson has spent 4 years not only avoiding serious contenders but avoiding dangerous fights period, that isn't going to change just because Kovalev lost two dubious fights to Ward. I suspect Stevenson would give up his belt before being forced into the ring with a guy like Kovalev. He wouldn't even fight Hopkins or a declined Pascal.
Fine? You think he's fine? After getting brutalized punished and stopped all hunched over and what not? He may be a lot of things after last night, but I think he'll be the first to tell you fine isn't one of them.
Relax Ward landed One great shot. The rest were belly shots and low blows. As for his drawing power which was poor, it's now gone
One Great Shot? That's what your saying happened? Ward just knocked out Kovalev. And he certainly did that with a lot more than one great shot. He was landing combinations, body shots, hooks, it was an accumulation of punches. You've got to be some kind of delusional to say he only landed one great shot. Give SOG his due credit. He did what you never dreamed he could do. Lets face it, Ward proved that he is far superior to Kovalev, and don't even try to fight it. It's Over. Ward has systematically and brutally Konquered The Krusher!
