Kovalez looks ill. I don't know what his problem is. But what I see is a man who is rapidly declining physically either due to rapid aging, being given chemicals on the sly in his food, or some kind of as yet undiagnosed illness. The punches he threw were feeble and he seems to gas out after four rounds. He needs a full medical checkup to determine what's wrong. IMHO BTW That's of course assuming it wasn't all play acting as in wrestling.
Would love to see him punish The Pimp, but we all know the latter isn't willing to get into the ring with anyone elite.
Unfortunately, Kovalev seems to be done. He is one of those athletes that platous in his early 30s and then without a warning drastically drops off physically overnight. His stamina is gone. His body can not sustain oxygen delivery as it once had. Probably due to low hemoglobin due to low testosterone. Two matches back to back, gassing in the 5th? Yeah, he is done unless he hops on peds.
At the age of 34 and with a display of such a defeatist attitude, I'm not sure if he will bother digging deep anymore. He'll probably get a couple of KO's and then end up losing to another elite. I want to see Beterbiev vs both guys.
Christ, he lost to Ward...I can't believe he's being written off completely. Let's give Ward some credit here. There's plenty at LHW still for Kovalev. Adonis will say he doesn't have belts so won't fight him, so let's no waste time with that. Maybe he could aim for the loser of Barrera-Smith Jr after a quick tune up against some random? Assuming he still looks okay then he should look toward the top end again
I've never thought Stevenson could beat Kovalev. I don't now. It's boxing and Stevenson has a helluva good left hook to be sure, so yeah, he has a puncher's chance (probably a better than usual one) but I haven't seen anything that convinces me that Stevenson can box at the same level Sergei does and I don't think Ward ruined Kovalev the way that GGG and then Spence ruined Brook (for example). Finally, I don't think Stevenson has faced anybody that hits like The Krusher either, so imo, Sergei has a large advantage as a boxer and equivalent (or very nearly so) puncher's chance. I'll take Kovalev by mid to late round stoppage after a methodical beating.
You could be right. Mayhaps an interim fight with a lesser opponent would be prudent, but if they fought tomorrow, I'd still pick Kovalev.
dont forget about the Chilemba fight he gassed there too Did he always have poor gas tank? He didnt gas against Pascal 1 which was a pretty intense fight. Also he looked good in 12 vs Bhop tho that was a slower pace. The chilemba fight was odd for me. I scored it 7 rounds to 5 Kov which i thought was closer than it should have been
