Vitali Klitschko carried Tomasz Adamek for 10rds. it happens. monroe is a slick fighter and has very fast hands. he was coming off impressive wins out of boxcino and over vera, so he is a good fighter. but ggg was in no trouble of losing being up 5-0 going into the final rd.....lets not let something your'e annoyed by cloud your overall vision. Golovkin could have taken him out in 2-3 rds if he'd just pushed the pedal down, but he was having fun in there and extended our enjoyment to 6.:good
undoubtedly, but that IF.....is the massive elephant in the room. More like the massive wooly mammoth in the room, or even more massive megalosaurus in the room. Ward is retired unless Mayweather agrees to fight him at 172.:thumbsup
He was awful and had been dominated and also TKO'ed before GGG. The Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam fight was one of the ugliest fights I've seen. He was hyped up by GGG fans.
Both fighters are definitely special. The main difference here is GGG needs to seek for a real challenege... If he wants to emulate Hopkin's career he is on the right track, but it is not guranteed he will have the longevity Hops had so he better start fighting Top caliber opposition.
Golovkin deserves more, proved everything in amateurs, never been down (unlike Kovalev), much more talented, much better technically and has much wider ****nal, doesn't cry about problems in backstage in the past as Kovalev, although had larger problems than Kovalev, now proving everything in pro boxing, he has options for future while Kovalev's options are scarce and limited. Kovalev with all the credit to him is just a bit lucky in terms of fights. Lucky that Shumenov was not milking title and fought Hopkins, lucky that Hopkins wasn't milking titles and fought him.
Good post, but I'd say that Kovalev put his work in, in the ring, just has GGG. Yes,GGG is the more celebrated amateur, has more professional title defenses and has fought and beat in more dominant fashion more former or current world champions, but b/c he fights in a division where fighters can melt off 5 lbs to hide from him, he's doesnt have the luxury of having a wide range of top names available. That said, there are at least 10 top guys coming up that MIGHT fight at their natural size/wieght and become big names soon enough. Spence, Lara, Canelo, Martirosyan, Andrade, Charlos, Kyrtov, Murata, Lubin, Williams and Soro to name a few. Lara, Canelo, Andrade, Charlos, and Martirosyan are all big names already. And each of them have the size to compete at 160. Most of them enter the ring bigger than GGG, but b/c they choose to stay in the lower division, GGG can't get em in the ring without compromising weights. Though, I have little doubt that GGG would happily entertain 156-158 to get a Charlo or a Lara or Andrade into the ring. He'd definitely do it to make the Canelo unification/mandate. Once he gets the Cnaelo fight, the names will be begging to fight him b/c he'll be HBOs PPV player, even if he's only doing 300K, which I have no doubt he'd do if he could get someone like Andrade or Charlos' into the ring with him. At LHW, guys are coming into the ring weighing near 190, and draining to 168 would be detrimental to most of them, and fighting at 200 has proven to be disastrous for most of the LHWs who have tried it. 160 COULD be a GREAT division if it werent for the incredibly chickenized 154lb division.atsch
First I would like to note that your obsession with Golovkin is unhealthy. Kovalev resume is a lot better than Golovkin's. But the eye test tells me that Golovkin is the better fighter. Unlike the resume this is completely subjective I might be wrong. I also enjoy Golovkin fighting style and personality more. So I'm more excited for a Golovkin than a Kovalev fight. There is something really innovative in Golovkin's blend of Euro and Mexican fighting styles.
Easily Kovalev. His resume and intentions answer any "Why?" question. GGG seems to be more content on fighting tomato cans and on PPV these days.
