Kovalev, Stevenson, Hopkins - Question to the fans if this scenario were to happen

Kovalev has a a win over Hopkins and is the WBO WBA IBF LHW champ.

The WBC champ Stevenson is considered the champ by The Ring mag, which many fans on here take as gospel and literally.

Now if Hopkins were to fight and beat Stevenson, who would you call the LHW champ?
Would it be Kovalev as he has the win over Hopkins or Hopkins because of a magazine rating system (which I have questioned on here before)

Maybe we should discuss a fight between Kovalev and the " pimp ".
IMHO Kovalev would smash the woman beater within 4 rounds.

Lets not forget that Kovalev was considered a one dimensional slugger before last nights fight, and he's proved to be anything but.

Kovalev showed good footwork but if the scenario above were to happen, who do you think the champ would be?

I think Nard would beat Stevenson, in fact i wouldn't be shocked if he stopped him.
Kovalev meanwhile is on another level, heavy hands, decent engine, smart boxing brain and the ability to listen and digest what his corner tell him.
Kovalev has already beaten Hopkins, would stop Stevenson before the middle rounds (imo) and i think Hopkins beats Stevenson.

So i'm taking Kovalev as king of the division.

I think so as well, Stevenson seems to tire very easily, if Hopkins can nullify his early offense (which I think he probably could) he can take him out in the later rounds or score a decision.

It would be similar to the Cotto-GGG situation, where Cotto is the linear champion, but GGG is widely viewed as the best. Hopkins would, as a matter of fact, become the linear champ if he beat Stevenson, but nobody who's honest would be able to consider him better than Kovalev after that one-sided exhibition last night.

    Good question B.

Unfortunately in this day and age, there is no THE Champ. If the above scenario were to come to be, Kovalev would be the unified champ, Hopkins would be the lineal champ. Depending on where the Ring ranks him when the fight happens with Stevenson, he may or may not end up as the Ring champ.

It really comes down to opinion and preference. Common sense would dictate that Kovalev would be held in higher regard, despite not being the lineal champ, or Ring champ.

The one clear positive outcome from this would be that Stevenson would be put out to pasture.

I can see the similarities but Golovkin doesnt have a win over Cotto, so there could be some further debate

The ring now has 'ring card girl of the month' and no Floyd hasnt done an issue yet.

Kovalev is clearly the number one in the division . i have Hopkins beating Adonis anyhow.

Its a tough one isnt it.
I dont like this lineal champ thing much as I think it is often a fictitional thing. I think you are right with there is no The Champ unless its a unified champ etc.
I think it is a case of the best when proven. I would rate Kovalev at the top
