Calzaghe by decision. He had a good chin, and was hard to hit. Coupled with his tremendous workrate, he could have outpointed Kovalev. It would have been his hardest fight ever, probably. And Kovalev would have more than a chance.

I think the inevitable KD's in Kov's favour would be the difference, at least 2 of them. You, yourself are always spouting off about Joe's suseptibility to right hands. ( Think Reid ) I think Joe makes the distance though.

The calzaghe that fought at light heavy was past prime, kovalev would have stopped him, prime calzaghe was a super middle, also believe kovalev would have been too strong and stopped him, I am a calzaghe fan btw

 

Kovalev walks through Calzaghe and knocks him out, not that Joe would ever fight someone like Kovalev that is.

 

Kovalev would give Calzaghe the cleverly treatment, joe unloads too many shots to beat kovalev, kov would have a field day landing hooks as they trade and probably wipe joe out. Too big, too strong, too clever.

Hey, I can see both sides of the argument. But yes, I could envisage Joe frustrating him with speed and volume.

I wouldn't have put any money on it, but I can envisage it. Admittedly though, my opinion is based on a few assumptions. I'd have to assume that it was Joe at his best, fighting to his full capabilities, at LHW, but earlier than he actually fought at LHW, with the will to push Kov back.

So there's a lot of IF's involved. I can understand people saying they don't think he'd have taken the fight. But for the sake of the thread, it's better to assume that he would have done.
