Cleverly doesn't have the coordination or boxing skills of a master boxer like b-hop to fight a disciplined for 12 rounds against a killer like kovalev. Kovalev will swarm cleverly from the opening bell never letting him get set and stop him within 5. I seen how easy bellew was able to touch cleverly and kovalev is levels above bellew in skills and punching power.

It's not just his wins that illustrate his power tho' is it? It's the manner in which he wins. His average fight length is just over 2.5 rounds and his KOs brutal - admittedlly they tend to be a result of heavy combo punching rather than one punch KOs, but yeah, given that record it's not unreasonable to say he's got some of the heaviest hands at 175.

Just who are these 'far better' fighters that Clevs faced? Look, I get that you are a Clev fan, but I find it puzzling that you can't actually see that Kovalev is a real threat to Clev. I know the bookies get it wrong sometimes but the fact that Clev ain't the favourite for once should tell you something. If Clev wins this one he will go up massively in my estimation, but for you, Kovalev will be just another nobody on Clevs resume, will he?

 

If you watch sky sports or Box nation talk shows you will notice they don't want to talk about this fight. It's like they know Cleverly will lose and they just want it to be over so they can start talking about his comeback. I hope they are wrong I would like to see a good fight

I just don't believe the hype if Kovalev had just stopped Froch and Kessler by KO i would be rating his power but he hasn't he's stopped Cornelius White Gabriel Campillo, Clevery has a good jab and solid chin i have watched every Kovalev fight i can find and can't see one opponent he's faced with a solid jab

 

Thats how i see it, all this stuff about clev should get on his bike is rubbish thats exactly what Kov wants , Clev must fight up close to defuse Kov punches and catch kov up the middle and land body punches

 

Both White and Campillo fight behind a solid jab usually (any Campillo fight and White - Sukhotsky are good ones to watch). Boone no, Lionell Thompson very much so from the little I've seen. Thing is, none of them have had the chance to fight on their own terms. If Clev can deny Kovalev the initiative we'll get to see how Kovalev copes when the chips are down.

Look, if you believe that Clev is gonna box the snot outta Kovalev then that's fair enough. I don't, but telling me that Kovalevs achievements are unimpressive ain't likely to change my mind. I'm more than happy to wait and see.

 

I think if Cleverly uses his length and speed effectively he can most
definitely get the win here. He doesn't have to move the entire fight
but he needs to jab on the outside then move his hands up and down
then spin out of there consistently to get the win. He absolutely can
not get stuck with just keeping the earmuffs on though. If he does he'll
give Kovalev the opportunity to land the big shots and I do believe Kovalev
has the power to knock him out.

Whilst I favour Kovalev in this fight, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Cleverly could take him into deep water and get a points win or a late stoppage. Cleverly has the home advantage, the crowds support and has none of the travel hassle. He has speed, stamina and a level of durability that puts him above the usual Kovalev opponent.

Kovalev, what is he going to do? Will he fight with a higher guard, a more technical fight, perhaps he jabs with Cleverly. Will Cleverly make him look slow and a little ponderous with his fast combination and quick jabs?

Kovalev whilst 6ft (on paper), appears larger than his taller 6ft 1-2inch opponents, will he be too strong and large for Cleverly to bully around the ring?

Do we expect a tentative first round from Cleverly, or should he jump on Kovalev from the start?

The fights less than two weeks away, the 17th August 2013.

This must now be a really anticipated fight. It's a shame it's not having the full exposure it deserves.
