Kovalev knocked him all over the ring. Hopkins had to use every bit of his experience and savvy to survive the full 12, which was his goal.
And the difference between the fights is that in 2014 Kovalev boxed like that more because of his respect to Bernard Hopkins, and now he boxed Alvarez in a similar way but the reason was completely different — Kovalev knew that his body simply could not afford to throw hard punches for all 12 rounds.
I was at Atlantic City and saw the fight live. Hopkins did a little better than what is being described here, but not by a whole lot. But he was seriously hurt in the last round. I thought he gave a courageous effort given his ancient age (for a fighter).
If Kovalev paced himself and just concentrated on boxing and not knocking Andre Ward out, he'd have won both fights comfortably.
Do you need glasses? Not sure how you missed it, it was pretty obvious, even Roy Jones noticed it and pointed it out.
Timestamped This content is protected It's happened in numerous other fights of Kovalev's too where people have mistakenly thought he was hurt due to his feet being out of position and balance issues or his feet getting entangled with his opponent's. We've obviously seen him genuinely hurt numerous times but it's not as much as many have claimed it is. In fact, it happened again on Saturday. The commentators mistakenly thought he'd been hurt only to notice his foot had become entangled with one of Alvarez's.
How would Kovalev beat Andre Wards Judges? LMAO, even if he boxed Wards head off there is no way Ward will lose on the cards.
That sounds like Hopkins in his last 20 fights. Cheat, run away, throw a few rights with headbutsh, blame ref or ppl when u lose... done...
I thought he did also, but he never would have lost some of those late rounds had he just focused on boxing and not go into destroyer mode. When you're the better boxer, going into destroyer mode and being more aggressive than you have to, give the lesser fighter the opportunity to capitalize on mistakes. Ward wouldn't have won more than 2 or 3 rounds and it would have been a lot harder for the judges to justify giving the fight to Ward.
