HBO and Showtime have done joint broadcasts for some big fights, namely Mayweather-Pacquiao and (most recently) Joshua-Klitschko. Everyone here knows the Sergey Kovalev-Adonis Stevenson fight was talked about incessantly and highly anticipated for good reason. There were past negotiations, which shed light on some alleged network TV contract prohibitions that served as hindrances... as well as purse bids that were ordered, (which were withdrawn from by Main Events). It's closing in on July 2017 and we are at a different place now -- the landscape looks "almost" the same, yet the precedent for the two rival networks to work together has since been established (once again, post-Lewis vs Tyson) by the aforementioned two fights. The most crucial factor that still remains? Kovalev vs Stevenson is STILL a fight that boxing fans wish to see. It is good time to press for this fight to get made, particularly if you're Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev. Main Events should be doing everything it can to get this fight back on the table for Sergey, since apparently most people (especially here) tend to think the Krusher rolls right over Stevenson... and Duva should be keen on getting Sergey another big fight (which he deserves after being given some "questionable deals" with her promotional efforts). Pressure should also be placed on Adonis Stevenson to once again entertain the notion of trying to make the Kovalev fight happen. He just fought Fonfara II, so unless Ward is a possibility next, there wouldn't be a better option than the Kovalev fight for him (should a potential meeting with Ward fall through). It appeared we were once close to having Kovalev vs Stevenson actually come to fruition, until Duva pulled out of the purse bids. So on the behalf of the boxing fans who previously endured the uneventful saga around a year or two ago, I say -- regardless of who you "side with" for whatever reason -- MAKE THIS FIGHT HAPPEN. The networks have shown they will work with one another, so let's do this.
Don't see it happening. Kovalev brings nothing to the table now and is coming off two losses. Before a 50-50 split would've been fair, but now Kovalev would have to concede too much. Kovalev needs two easy fights to rebuild and then a name before fighting for a title again. That said I'll never understand why Kovalev conceded so much with Ward business wise on both fights, but especially the first fight when he had the titles.
Not a problem. Stevensons last opponent was coming off a legit KO loss and Kovalev gave his entire purse to Ward to make the rematch happen.
Thats a waste of Kovs time. If he needs to take less to take a fight with Stephenson then thats what he should do. Kov should only fight the big fights. At his age and at this point in his career theyre the only things that matter. I think Kov still beats Superman easily. I think its the perfect fight for him to build confidence and set up another fight with Ward down the road.
Anyone with steel testicles can beat SOB, SOB's best punch it to the testicles and headbutts.....................SOB will get an award from WWE though.............
You get an award for allowing a dirty cheating SOB be your idol........................SOB sets a bad example for others, you never saw Hagler cheat. All the complaining about Vlad holding and then worship SOB?! Damn, now I've see everything, it's like Bob Bennett refusing to see the video of Rigo's late punch, holding and hitting, then refusing to watch the replay of Kovalev/SOB..........................anyone who can see knows that SOB cheated............
It's whether Chickenson wants to fight an actual live body. Since his victory over Dawson he's fought B grade fighters.
Such a fight is meaningless now. Why didn't Stevenson accept Kov's challenge when the fight would have meant something?
Andre hit kovalev in the crotch THREE TIMES IN A ROW. Kovalev was bent down because the ref was SUPPOSED TO GIVE HIM TIME AND DEDUCT A POINT FROM WARD.
Getting Stevenson's lineal LHW title would give Kovalev leverage in a possible trilogy fight with Ward but I don't see that fight ever happening. Stevenson will continue dragging stiffs to Quebec to knockout.
Valid points. This fight just needs to be made (finally). If he manages to win (which most of you guys believe he will), then Kov stands to gain back quite a bit of momentum here. Duva needs to start her media campaign again; this is the obvious route to take. She needs to get out there and put the pressure on Stevenson's side and increase demand for the fight. If need be, even Kovalev should be the one pressuring Duva to get the Stevenson fight made. She owes him that. Otherwise, I hope Kov leaves Main Events as soon as his contract is up. He already deserves better.
