He ignored Agnew's body, yet ironically he KO'd Agnew by breaking his ribs, after outworking throughout the fight and winning every round, and going to the body several times. The knockdown was from Caparello clearly hitting low and stepping on his foot, not because the ambush was successful, which you also left out. Hopkins did push Kovalev back in the 10th and still lost the round. Ward fights nothing like Pascal, Froch, Brand and Barrera fight nothing like Kovalev. Irrelevant. Ward lacks the power to trouble Kovalev with his ambushes and the chin of Pascal to attempt them repeatedly, therefore possibly making him more cautious The ambushes paid off for a round or two for Agnew and Pascal, until Kovalev got their timing down and adjusted, and started countering them both, now add your comment about Ward's reaction time and reflexes slowing. That is very Relevant. Overall a decent video though And I do like the Metroid like music you have in the background.
Nice. I'm picking Ward UD 9 rounds (although knockdowns can possibly happen). Sergey is mainly going to fight you from range only. I don't think I've ever seen him submit to fighting on the inside. It's his way or the highway (for him). If Ward would live up to his reputation of being a dirty fighter, he should low blow Kovalev a few times to counter Kovalev's imposing aggressiveness as you did a breakdown of in that video (I'm expecting Ward to jab to the body a lot rather than up top from range) - Kovalev hates anything unconventional. Ward has seen Kovalevs in the amateurs. You're going to see a lot of highlight reel in-fighting work from Ward. Best in-fighting in the game. It's not going to so easy for Ward on the outside, though. Kovalev is good at feinting with both hands, and so unless Ward has studied Kovalev's feints, he's not going to have much success countering Kov on the outside. I just can't bet against Ward. Only knockdowns will make this fight closer in the scorecards. I don't really remember the Chilemba fight well enough so I can't say much.
I acknowledged he was outworking Agnew, but the body was wide open for him and he neglected it for large stretches. The fact Kovalev knocked him out with a jab to the body was very impressive. I personally didn't see him step on his foot, it's plausible, but Kovalev still backed up and was caught off guard. I didn't say he won the round. He had success using a specific tactic. Ward uses counters off the shoulder roll like Pascal did. Froch, Brand, and Barrera were used to showcase Ward's style and ring intelligence, which is very relevant. It's not like Ward has fought a Kovalev clone in his career. Thanks for the compliments
I actually am starting to think Ward is going to use his jab to keep Kovalev's right hand at home and stunt his feinting, kind of like Floyd did with Oscar after struggling a bit. https://ioneglobalgrind.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/mayweather-vs-oscar-de-la-hoya-3.gif?w=640&h=360
Says the guy who clearly doesn't follow anyone in the sport that isn't an American A-lister..... You literally DKSAB CASUAL
I think the left hook is going to keep Kov's right in the holster. Kov sleeps on lead rights as well.
Yeah that's another good option, he just has to get his distance right so Kovalev doesn't just step back or slip and throw his right hand over it like he's so good at doing. Ward will have to come in low and feint to avoid opening that window for him.
Ward has clearly slowed down and lost his flexibility from his 168lbs days - Paul smith, barrera, and the cab driver have masked this a bit because they are D level fighters. He's getting walked down and banged out. The only thing he can do is try to grab and hold, headbutt, and land the occasional leading potshot. two years of ring rust is scary. Wresting around with froch and kessler is one thing...doing it with Kovalev is quite another. He'll be very fatigued and it won't take long. Late rounds knockout coming up
Excellent work, watched half but will finish it by fight time, always on the look out for your material. enjoyed your Floyd vs Manny breakdown I think Ward has a great right cross with his non dominant hand but it's a punch I think he neglects but shouldn't shy away from this time My only wondering is where is Ward at. his tune ups were so one sided and he never got out of first gear. I'm curious to see if his quickness is still there, if his ability to maul is still there at 175 and where his gas tank is I pick Kovalev by stoppage but not confidently
Yes the ambush thing I think is very relevant,BHop was caught perfectly doing just that and I think it's gonna put Ward in two minds about trying that. My only question of Kovalev is how he keeps his hands low but to give him credit his reflexes are pretty good and usually sees anything coming his way,I've not seen anyone try and survive when hit by Kovalev save BHop,Pascal, cleverly were all like rabbits in headlights when hurt, take a knee, clinch, anything other than what they did.
I'm interested to see how Wards gonna use his jab,you know that Straight jab to the upper body Ward often uses?well that right where Kovalevs gloves are usually so does he just go head hunting instead?
Thanks a lot for watching! I think Ward is indeed the biggest question mark. On one hand, he didn't have to be as quick and athletic against his tune-ups, but he definitely didn't look like his prime performances. I also think the right hand will be key, especially since I think Ward will use his outstretched lead hand to busy Kovalev's right glove. Footwork will be very key in this fight. If Kovalev backsteps and catches Ward coming in consistently, it's a problem. Ward will have to add an extra step when he comes forward throwing punches.
I think he's going to go more for the jab to the body, Kovalev is really good at countering that straight right over the jab.
