Had Kovalev winning by a point but it was a very close fight with 2 or 3 critical rounds that reasonably could have been scored either way. Can't understand how any serious boxing fan could consider this a robbery when Kovalev was so completely ineffective for the whole second half of the fight.
The problem is that Ward figured out him out and all but completely neutralized him less than halfway through the fight. Kovalev had no answers and couldnt find Ward once he started finding better angles in & out and got the timing & distance down. The skill and ring iq gap was bigger than I'd anticipated.
He figured him out yet didn't do naff all about it, Kovalev still won some of the later rounds so you're not correct there I'm afraid.
I didnt favour either boxer and didn't particularly care who won, but it appears you had Kovs Nutsack resting on your chin; I wont try and give my reasoning or put up the card I marked because the semen splatted all over your face has clearly effected your eyesight, you wont be able to read it just as you weren't able to watch the fight without blurry eyes
Have now rewatched the whole fight and have Ward by about 1-3 pts. There were at least 5-6 very close rds, so Kovalev winning it would not be out of the question IMO. But I can't at all understand the talk about robbery. Kovalev had the better of the first half, Ward of the second. I just felt that, with the exception of rd 2, Ward just made his edge more clearly felt in the part of the fight he dominated. One key difference for me is that Ward moved backwards and away from most of Kovalevs punches and therefore took away much of the impact many times. Kovalev on the other hand often moved into Wards punches which enhanced the impact. I also think that Ward managed to nick some close rounds with his work on the inside. Some of the body punches Ward landed were probably among the most meaningful of the fight and could be one explanation as to why he closed stronger. But all in all, a close fight. A rematch would be in order.
This makes me favor Ward in a rematch as well. Probably it would take less time for him to hit his stride. One should remember that Ward haven't fought a world class fighter for some 5 years before last night. This could be why it took him so relatively long time to really get going.
Agreed to suggest this fight was a robbery is absurd, by virtue of walking forward and making your opponent back off or hold doesn't win you the round, the trouble was that Kovalev was unable to land anything meaningful after the 3/4 round, some of the cards ive seen giving him a clear win are ******ed!!
1. I had Ward by three, but I may have been generous in giving Ward the first round so a one point win does seem right to me. 2. I think Harold and Lampley did a pretty big disservice to the general public by basically cheerleading for Kovalev. 3. Similar to Mayweather-Maidana I, I felt like there were lots of close rounds that went to the same guy (Ward). The close rounds were generally fought on Ward's terms with Kovalev trying to win at Ward's game. 4. I was impressed by Kovalev. He showed better timing than I thought and some adaptability after a series of off rounds in the middle of the fight. I thought the fight might look like the Kessler fight, but he's clearly a cut or two higher.
You're just a sheep that listens to all the other puddings boasting about the masterclass that Ward never produces....
I have never suggested it was a masterclass, just a clear win for Ward...my thoughts are from a neutral perspective because I really didn't give a **** who won and still don't after the fact. As it goes those who know me from other sites would back the fact that ive openly thought all the fuss about Ward is bull**** and he is vastly overrated, but that's all by the by.....he won this fight quite clearly!
