Kovalev wants to whoop GGG, will GGG man up and take the fight?

Kovalev is getting sick and tired of the media talking about some sparring fairy tale that GGG dropped him year's ago.

Usually Kovalev just smiles and neither confirms or denies the truth of the story.

Well now Kovalev has had enough, and has confirmed it is BS and made up by a trainer scorned the burritto eater himself Abel Sanchez.

Kovalev sounds like he wouldn't mind putting a whooping on GGG to remove any doubt about this story, will GGG step up and fight a guy around his natural size for once?

Maybe after GGG gets all of the belts. I'd love to see this fight and I'd favor Kovalev. I would be surprised if we ever get it though.

They're 2 weightclasses apart and both have big things coming up first. Doubt it will happen within 1½ years if at all.

Not really Abel Sanchez confirms GGGs best/natural weight class is 168, so only 1 weight division between them, and Kovalev is just an average sized 175lber, not big at all.

Practically the same height and reach, Kovalev only just edges both.

Still it's not about size/weight otherwise Canelo would be considered a SMW as well. At the moment they're 2 weightclasses apart, so with logical steps Golovkin first beats Jacobs and Kovalev beats Ward. Then Golovkin tries to get BJS for complete unification to "undisputed" and maybe on a later time Canelo if he still has the lineal championship at that time and is willing, with both having mandatories inbetween. After breaking Hopkins' record, next step would be the current 168 #1 (maybe DeGale). After that, he might take the step to LHW.
Kovalev would have to defend his belts in the meantime and trying to get a fight with the pimp without the chance of either getting stripped due to network issues, or becoming too big for the weight that he has to move up.

Yeah this the most logical turn of events, but at the same time there isn't really a lot stopping a one-off catchweight bout in the meantime. Unlikely, but if you would have told me a few months ago that Kell Brook would fight GGG at 160 lbs I would have said that you need to be checked into a mental facility because of your delusions, so who can really say?

Sanchez saying GGG's best weight would be 168 is interesting to me. GGG doesn't seem to cut a lot of weight at all as he isn't exactly a big middleweight.

    lol...these guys never quit....
"its not about hte size/weight".....yet thats all we heard about when ggg signed to fight kell friggin brook ..."oh man brook is a big welterweight...look at his weight...how this guy made 147 is beyond me the guy is a legit mw"......

all the excuses are out "he has better things on the horizon...maybe after he collects all the belts(which is taking him forever)...blah blah blah please dont demand ggg to challenge himself and maybe lose it will hurt my pride"

Fairytale? You do know that Kovalev's own trainer confirmed it did happen right?

Kovalev would likely be too much for Golovkin,I like Golovkin but Abel Sanchez doesn't half bug me,why is Sanchez no longer Kovalevs trainer anyway?

Well, Brook actually is a big WW and only stayed at that weightclass in anticipation for big fights, but they never came. His best weight is probably 154. 160 is pushing it though; that's absurd to think that would be ideal for him I think.

I think trying to unify a division is a pretty decent reason to stay in that division. He doesn't have trouble making the weight, he isn't bigger than everyone in the weight class, and he can make history doing this. I want to see him go eventually but at the same time the idea of seeing him be the MW king is pretty exciting to me. It kind of sucks though since at this point it isn't the fights at MW that excite me, but the idea of GGG getting all of the belts. None of the matchups at 160 are even appealing. GGG's age is a huge concern for me too. I know he's a very active fighter so he's going to be cramming fights, but realistically he won't be doing this for much longer so if we're going to get a big fight involving him it has to be done sooner rather than later for it to even be a possibility.

kovalev should concentrate on beating the watermelon eater himself, ward. he can worry about ggg after he handles that noise.

Golovkin vs Kovalev would be like Michael Spinks vs Marvin Hagler. Weight difference would be +20 pounds. Not going to happen. Golovkin could go to fight bigger men at 168 and giving them reach, size and strenght advantages, but against LHWs skills would not pay the bills. Who would like to watch fight where size would be the only defining factor?

This is what I think as well.

Golovkin seems to be technically superior when he bothers to box and not brawl, but Kovalev is much bigger and is a monster hitter. GGG might be able to beat Kovalev, but I would favour Kovalev.
