Kovalev / Ward 2. From a neutral perspective

I thought I would leave it a few days to let the traffic die down before making a thread.

After the 1st fight between Kovalev and Ward, many including myself felt Kovalev had outpointed Ward. I felt Ward was troubled by Kovalevs jab in the first fight.
Many posters who felt Ward won the first fight wrote something along the lines of how they felt Ward had worked Kovalev out and took over, and that in the return, Ward would pick up where he left off.

How wrong everyone was. Once again Ward seemed troubled by Kovalevs jab and troubled by what Kovalev was doing and on my card was losing before the end of the fight. Kovalev looked to me to be winning.
I do feel Kovalev was being hit low and feel he was trying to get the ref to acknowledge what was happening. I also think Kovalev was hit by an elbow which I dont think got a reaction from the ref (might not have seen it), but I felt the finish was disgusting. A fighter gets hit below the belt and the ref waved the fight off.

I have read posts and threads since the fight and some say the punch wasnt in the groin, but it was below the belt and the body is more sensitive lower down, which is why there is a belt line.
I have seen a post where one notes the ref saying punches here are OK before the fight, but the finishing punch Kovalev took looked noticeably lower. Lets not forget also that Kovalev had mentioned about punches straying earlier in the fight.
Kovalev gets hit low and the ref calls the fight off.

I would not have liked a finish like that either way and feel only agenda ridden fans would rate that finish.
Would someone who has the moniker "Son Of God" hit below the belt intentionally?

The call is always down to the officials. If they were to score the fight on the rounds fought, I guess Kovalev would have won.
Should the fight be changed to a No Contest? I think that would be the right thing to do and an immediate rematch made

Its twice now where I feel Kovalev was winning but officially Ward has the wins and I cant imagine many would feel the result of the last fight was fair call

    Feel free to comment

Good post. I was so naive to think I could bet big on Kovalev and expected a fair shake, the fight was a disgusting farce and another black eye to this shambles of a sport. A NC verdict and rematch with a competent, unbiased referee and neutral judges would be great but will never happen. The circus following the fight also rankles where all Wards friends and family were calling Kovalev a quitter in the post fight presser while he was trying to speak….repulsive.

You lost all "neutrality" when you questioned the man's religion or "Son of God" moniker for no reason.

To prove your netural, then please address the followng points :

    1) Can you confirm that Kovalev was reacting to punches landed squarely on the middle of the belt-line (the white part of the trunks, whatever you want to call that), legal body shots on 3 separate occasions (2nd round, 7th round, and with 1:45 left in the 8th round)? The first of these occasions, Weeks gave Kovalev rest and the fight resumed. The other two times Weeks didn't give Kovalev rest when Kovalev complained. From replays, it is clear that all 3 of those punches were on the middle part of the white part of Kovalev's belt-line, and thus not low. So to show you're neutrality, address these 3 instances where Kovalev was appealing for time by reacting bending over and looking hurt, when in reality these were each belt-line legal shots. (addressing this point will show how neutral you are)

    2) Can you confirm that Kovalev was landing repeated illegal rabbit punches in the clinch, throughout the fight. Some of them were light borderline not that bad punches, while others were hard clear fouls in the form of rabbit punches. Please confirm that you observed this. In your neutral estimation, should Kovalev have been warned or penalized for this?

    3) Can you confirm that Kovalev himself threw some borderline punches to the belt-line of Ward? Can you confirm that in the 7th round Kovalev threw a jab somewhere near borderline from a non-clinch position. It's more intentional when you throw a belt-line punch from distance as opposed to in the clinch when you can't really tell where the opponent's belt is being that close to the opponent as you are when you're in a clinch?

So start by address those 3 points, that way you can prove your neutrality.

And as far as the result being changed to a no contest, to give you a better understanding of the rules, if there was a foul ruled as the reason for a stoppage (which didn't happen here because #1 Even if it had been ruled low and Kovalev was given 5 minutes, it wouldn't have caused the fight to stop, it would have resumed presumably as Kovalev wouldn't have chosen to quit, and #2 even if it did get ruled a foul, and then Kovalev was unable to continue, in that even the fight would have gone to the scorecards, and Ward was already up by 1 point in the previous round, so it would have been 10-9 Ward in the 8th even if a point was deducted, it would have then been a 9-9 round and Ward still would have won a split decision). That's assuming it was fouled a foul and a point was deducted, Ward still had the 1 point lead on the scorecard. So it wouldn't have been a no contest, it would have gone to the scorecards since the foul supposedly was after the 4th round. But as we know, it wasn't ruled a foul, but in both scenarios, even if a foul was ruled, Ward still would have won the cards. So there's no argument for it to be a no contest even if it were retroactively ruled a foul. Even if it was called a foul and stopped due to a foul and even Ward if was deducted a point for that in the 8th, it still would have gone to a scorecards over 8 rounds and Ward still would have won a technical split decision.

Ward controlled the fight from start to finish, and whilst Kovalev was keeping him honest with the jab it was Ward who was landing the power shots and dictating the pace and frustrating Kovalev who was missing a lot more than in the first fight.

Ward got his game plan completely spot on, he purposely forced the action knowing that Kovalev faded down the stretch last time.

Got his tactics and gameplan spot on and was brilliant the whole night.

    My card was as follows:
    Round 1: 10 - 9 Ward
    Round 2: 10 - 9 Kovalev
    Round 3: 10 - 9 Kovalev
    Round 4: 10 - 9 Ward
    Round 5: 10 - 9 Ward
    Round 6: 10 - 9 Kovalev
    Round 7: 10 - 9 Ward

The 3 official judges, two of them had Ward up by a point, the 3rd judge had Kovalev up by 3 points.

Damn, SOB landed below the white part of his trunks, on the letter, on the *****! It was that low.

By the way, why was SOB's back full of bumps, it was badly broken out.....................some say steroids, didn't SOB refuse to take a drug test? Even Mayweather said that Kovalev won the first fight and that Weeks was a no good referee...............Was Weeks tweet the real thing? Damned crook and to Hell with Bob Bennett, after Count Drackula spoke to Bob, he had to chance his mind after the Rigo cheat..................
