    Ward on points.

If Kovalev beats him I'd be incredibly impressed.

No one is saying Kovalev is not a very good fighter. However Ward is destined for all time greatness based on the evidence we have seen. Ward beat all comers and refused to fight an old Bernard Hopkins. Ward hits hard enough trust me. No one has been able to walk through him have they. It shocks me that people dont understand that Ward will come with his A game and more against Kovalev.

I'll say this about the individuals claiming that Ward doesn't have any power.

On paper, it's true that Ward isn't a wrecking ball. He has a 50% KO ratio, and most of those knockouts were early in his career. He wasn't able to get Miranda, Kessler, Abraham, Froch, or any of the other top notch fighters he has fought out of there (to his credit, he did TKO Chad Dawson). As such, there's no reason at all to think he can get an iron-chinned opponent like Kovalev out of there.

However, to equate the idea that a fighter has a low KO percentage with the notion that the fighter doesn't have enough power to keep his opponents honest is a fallacy. Why, if Ward has no power, didn't an iron-chinned opponent like Arthur Abraham that finished a fight against Edison Miranda with a broken jaw simply walk through everything that Ward threw at him? To that point, why didn't Froch, who was known as the ultimate tough man in the division at the time?

The reason Andre's past iron-chinned opponents didn't walk straight through his punches is the same reason that Canelo didn't walk through Floyd's punches the way that every expert thought he would - Andre has the power needed to keep an opponent honest. He may not have "KO" written across his gloves, but he has more power than the boxing public recognizes. If he didn't, we would've seen somebody walk through him by now. They know they can't take that risk, either out of concern that they will get knocked out or out of concern that the accumulation of punches will take its toll as the fight goes the distance.

The only way I see Kovalev winning this fight is with a mixture of ring IQ and power. He's not going to be able to walk up to Andre with his chin in the air the whole fight and dare him to throw punches. To think this will be the case is an oversimplification of Andre's skill set. On the contrary, Kovalev is going to have to very carefully pick his spots and try to catch Andre with a punch he doesn't see coming (which is going to be difficult to do with Andre's defensive skills).

a true pickem fight polling is damn near 50/50 . the comments in the thread have for the most part been logical contemplative with very limited nuthugging.

this is going to be a great fight for fans with two great champions and no matter what happens boxing wins.

I think Ward will win via wide ud but there is the chance Kovalev hurts him and ko's him because Ward looks slower and looks older.Ward wants to move to heavyweight division eventually I hope he never does that.If he looks slower and older now what will happen when he will face top heavyweight for a belt?
