This content is protected Pretty much exactly what I predicted, no surprises here. Huge financial loss for promoters too as it only generated like $5.8m. HBO making some stupid decisions lately as regards to making PPVs
I'm not surprised at all. Some here were trying to defend the insane 5 million payday, like he would be able to generate that amount easy.
Sad, not a good result for boxing. Have to say, though, that GGG's 97-150k PPV buys against a unknown opponent doesn't look bad compared to this PPV flop.
Golovkin vs lem did 150 which is confirmed by reliable sources so that goes to show you how big of a draw GGG is he is only behind canelo and pac
PPV should be removed for the earth. I think it's much better for everyone that a fight id viewed by as many people as possible. And if all these numbers are correct, the networks lose big money on almost every PPVcard?
so did they lose money of this event, no doubt ward got overpaid by a mile. but the total purse was 7 million, how much more came in at the gate and advertising
150k first time around, the way Ward stunk the joint out I can't see it getting any better if they do rematch and it ends up as PPV again.
While you may dislike PPV, from a business standpoint it's a necessity for boxing to survive. The way it's run is what's the problem.
How so? I have no idea what a network make from advertising, but if a event has million of viewers, wouldn't that create more money than 150k ppv buys? And a much wider audience.
It's all good wanting to see no ppv's but without ppv Kovalev v Ward wouldn't of happened. HBO do not pay enough in license rights to pay the purses so the fight doesn't happen.
