Kovalev vs Stevenson would likely have made more. I'm not even sure if Ward actually adds or subtracts numbers...

How do you know what was in the contract?

The promoters can negotiate with the networks there is no such thing as a rate for all.

How do you think Floyd and Pacman made that much money, the fight did not generate anywhere near twice what they earned.

Ward is a great guy and top 5 boxer as a talent, but he'll never be a draw. The days of defensive boxers makin a lot of money are over. Gone. Forever

    People want blood now

Is UK the only thriving PPV market?

All PPV s are like that. All of them
Promoters want to sell their product but dont have a way to send it to your home except through streaming on internet maybe. But that woulnt sell much, cuz the internet has it already...

So they go the other route through cable providers. And that cost a lot of money to put up, the whole system of cable, so they take half of the pie, always

In MayPac....HBO and Showtime made like 20 mil or less..that was their cut. Mayweather made the most of cash, of everyone involved, he basically called the shots at this event

    Two things

    (1) PPV is only £16.95 in the UK. It's the cost of phoning a takeaway or getting a round of drinks in. It's a cheap saturday night. People on here act like Eddie Hearn is robbing the public blind but the reason PPV works here is the price.

    (2) Boxing and football are closely linked due to being promoted by Sky Sports and the general culture around both sports being similar. There's a culture of people watching big matches and fights with their friends and even if the fight is shite (eg.Cleverly vs Bellew II) it's still a good night drinking with your mates. I'm not sure if this kind of culture exists in the US.

If I ever have sleep issues, I just think of boxing PPV numbers and that does the trick.

    No it doesnt
Sky does a great job of mixing football and boxing. I saw it during Manchester United vs Manchester City when they were promoting GGG vs Brook for later that night with every chance they had
And Hearn always tries to put stacked quality cards

$5m guarantee is a big mistake, at best this is an equal 2m each for kov and ward. And a percentage of ppv upside. Oh well, lesson learned for Roc nation.

It absolutely is a dying business model and you pay 1/3rd for a PPV than what people in the States pay you are not comparing Apples to Apples.

Half the revenue goes to the PPV distributors. So it is 9.6mil/2=4.8mil

That didn't even pay Ward's guarantee. This PPV isn't coming close to breaking even.

I think they messed up with the PPV price tag. Back in the days this fight would have been $44.95 and at that price point it would have probably gotten a few more buys. On my cable provider Fios TV it was $70 to order it in HD, $65 for SD, that's way to high.

A lot of truth to that (somewhat unfortunately in my perspective). Hence the rise of UFC which is shorter and more brutal than boxing.

We don't know what was in the contract, the cable company may not have had that big of a cut, that's just a BS % thrown in

+ $60 was just a number thrown in the average cost of the PPV was more likely higher and then we have gate and Advertising/sponsorship money + international TV money.

How do you know it didn't break even or make a profit tbf
