Why is ward getting all the blame? It takes two to tango. Why isn't a guy like kovalev who is "exciting" not drawing either then?

To be honest, 160k isn't even that bad for a Ward fight. The man clearly isn't a draw or has a lot of fans. I hardly saw any promos for that fight either.

Meanwhile, I've seen more promos for GGG/Lemmy than I did for Pac/May, Canelo/Khan and Ward/Kova combined. The hype for that fight was unreal, saw GGG doing promos and interviews on the breakfast club, saw hardcores/casuals talking about it, hyping a fight up between 2 hard hitting MW champions with like a 96% combined KO ratio. Literally saw multiple commercials and even fliers trying to promote the fight.

The fight happened and what we got was 97k-150k... LMFAO.

These fighters need to start selling themselves more all this nice guy and Humble **** doesn't sell as much now. Hate it or love it people like characters with big personalities **** talkers and flash. You will either get alot of fans or alot of haters but either way it's good for the sport. Just being a good boxer isn't working right now you have to have a gimmick. Pbf sold himself and it worked like a charm. These younger fighters need to do the same it's a new era and with the short attention spans of the younger generation you need that to sell them

If Tyson fury was American with his trash talk he woukd be a household name. More fighters need to follow suit.

Let's not forget the high cost of a PPV fight! $70.00?I really think that's what's pushing the numbers so low. Any halfway decent fight is on PPV now, it's getting ridiculous! The casual fan isn't going to shell out $70 for a fight that was shown on regular TV 5-8 years ago. 5 years ago Ward/Kovalev, Crawford/Postal or 3G/Lemiuex would not be a PPV event and sure as hellwouldn't cost $70. I truly believe if the prices get down to $40-$50 people will start buying the fights.

Probably because Ward got paid two and a half times what Kovalev did, is the last American man to win Olympic gold, and is being pushed as the next face of U.S. boxing. It'd be unusual to pin the U.S. PPV performance on a Russian immigrant when you take that into account.

That said, Main Events isn't a good enough promoter to maximize Kovalev's name value IMO. They can't even establish a home base for Kovalev to sell out of despite the fight anyone attitude and knockout power. At least Andre does well in the Bay area and has a regional fanbase to sell to.

Part of me is glad as PPV is just greed. My fear is that the rematch won’t happen when they tell both fighters they need to take a 50% wage cut. The fact is most fighters aren’t as big as they think they are. It takes guts to do this sport but if the demand isn’t there for whatever reason then they shouldn’t be getting paid ridiculous money.

I think you've missed the point, it's PPV sales in the US, surely that falls on the US fighter?

We are not talking worldwide viewing figures, they might be amazing, it might have been viewed by millions and millions in Russia but in the US Ward has to be the draw, Ward has to bring the PPV numbers and he didn't because he isn't a star.

What you were waffling on about Golovkin for I have no idea but errrr OK :risas3:

I think he's saying by your logic Brook was star in his last fight which some say was much more successful in PPV because it was in England. What they don't tell you is PPV there is much much more reasonable, 16.95. Some fans credit GGG but then discredit Ward, ie logic changes to fit an argument.

Tyson Fury throws 8 punches a round sorry but that doesn't make up for all of his 'trash talk'. I much prefer to see a guy who actually fights not a guy who talks trash for months on end then shows up to the fight and throws as few punches as possible and doesn't engage. Same for David Haye. What good does it do to make all these threats for months and months then show up and barely fight?

It was promoted. People aren't going to pay to see Andre Ward on PPV.

You could say all Wlad does is grab and hold. Tyson can talk sell fights and sell himself he was good for the sport before he fell off the deep end.
