I agree. They focus way too much on GGG... Why? This guy is already 34, he has mainly fought bums. Sergey has fought much better opposition, is a year younger, and quite frankly I think he is better overall and his personality and antics can actually be funny at times. (His chicken noise when he called out Stevenson had me laughing hard

^^ @ 3.00 secs Look at the ****ing wild brute that cannot form words storm in and interrupt Kovalev acting like he's in Kfc and they got his order wrong. They should have tranquillised him with a dart there and then.

Adonis is also a special person that needs to be forever punished and put to sleep.

HBO would've made this fight years ago, before Kovalev - Hopkins,
Adonis chose the cash route, like many others in boxing, see Danny G, but at least Swift gave us numerous good fights before he decided to semi-retire and show us only sparrings

But, it is what it is, Stevenson is also an old dude probably just wanting to wait cash out in the near future, I see him fighting the winner in the nrxt 18 months, maybe makin for himself even more money than each of Kova and Ward make right now

It's two weeks after the return of the best boxer of the past generation and a week after the McGregor show iirc. bad luck for them considering casuals wont pay $60 three weekends in a row. don't be surprised is ward gets 'injured ' and pushes the match back a few weeks

GGG and Kovalev got a similar push when both came to the network (KO artists who fight for cheap and deliver good ratings will do that, especially when the budget I'd being slashed).

What ultimately caused the divergence in popularity was the Stevenson fight falling through (Haymon invested heavily in 175, limiting Kovalev's options), bigger names fighting around GGG's weight, and GGG/K2 promotions doing a better job of marketing than Duva and Kovalev.

anything over 300k would be real good....300k would still be good...I could see it doing 250k too....which prob wouldn't be bad for all involved.....regardless if you are a boxing fan and don't buy this you should drink bleach

The days of ~900 to 1mil plus buys in boxing are over, at least for the forseeable future. Casuals boxing fans don't know any fighters except for Canelo, GGG, Kovalev and maybe acouple others.

Casuals NEED hype to buy a fight and no current boxers are good at generating that. Even a Canelo vs Golovkin doesn't crack a mil.

Yes I believe part of the problem is that there are no boxers capturing the attention of the casual. Honestly, I kind of wish Broner was a better boxer because he could do that... Or if Andre Ward had Broner's attitude. Andre Ward is American so he is able to relate to the BIG North American market, but since he is boring it isn't working.

The only real exception of a true cross over star was Manny Pacquiao because his style was so entertaining. It didn't matter he wasn't from the US. Also he LEARNED English, which other fighters should take note of.

Agree. You know who did take note of learning English? Cotto, and he became a massive star.

I think Ward could have been more of a star, but his inactivity combined with his awful opposition has killed him. I don't think he would have to act brash like Broner...but a little personality wouldn't kill him.
