It's a case of the fallacy where a fighter has more success (relatively speaking) than prior rounds, so people give him the round for doing a better job.
Bulling someone, through whatever means, into the ropes means just that. He charged forward and eventually shoved Kov back into the ropes. May not have been pretty, or legal (which is why he got warned), but that's what happened. Kov bulled Ward back into the ropes later on in the stanza.
I took notes: Ward steps in with a nice stiff jab but tries to tackle Kovalev shortly after. Kovalev lands a nice 3 punch combo, another stiff jab and left hook from Ward. Kovalev's combo misses during this exchange. Ward presses with a left hook, blocked, then follows with another stiff jab. Other punches are grazes and bare misses from both fighters. Definitely a close round, I think Ward nicked it because he closed it out stronger. Kovalev did the better work early for sure.
I personally thought Kovalev's hooks + one combo was worth more than Ward's couple of jabs (which were cleaner to be fair). I gave Kovalev round 3, honestly feel that most people giving it to Ward might have either: - overvalued the last minute of the round vs the first two, or - given it to Ward because he exceeded expectations: most expected him to be in trouble after the Rnd 2 KD.
So, why is it, when I give my opinion all I get from you is negative feedback challenging it. It's only an opinion and it's mine. I said that I feel he won and I gave you some reasons why. I don't agree with you and I don't care who does. What part of this that you don't understand?
This thread is proof that although defense is a scoring criteria, people don't like to use it when scoring a fight and tend to give people rounds just because they walk forward and throw punches. Ward made Kov miss a lot of shots in that round while standing dead in front of him. Ward landed the cleaner more clear shots in the round as well. So in regards to effective aggression, Kov is deducted. When it comes to clean punching Ward got the nod clearly. When it comes to defense, another scoring criteria goes to Ward. I have to slightly give Ward ring generalship as well. Although it's ugly, he smothered Kovs work and was able to slip and dodge once again majority of Kovalevs shots in that round. Don't get me wrong, it was a close round. Neither guy really did sheet but Ward edged it. And those of you sitting here and trying to use the argument that a jab shouldn't be the only reason to give a guy a round. You got to admit that's pretty hypocritical seeing that Kov was literally limited to only being able to land a jab for the majority of the fight. Ward displayed more punch variation on more occasions than Kovalev did. I didn't see Kov land to the body as good as Ward did nor did I see him land hooks as effective as Wards left hook. His right hand disappeared after round 2. Compubox had Ward outlanding Kov in jabs overall. Just saying people.
I didn't agree to that whatsoever. And are you trying to convince me that good punches were landed by Kovalev during that sequence? It seems like that's your motive.I literally saw nothing of note. Perhaps your definition of a good hook differs from mine. I gave it to Ward.
This is a clearly trolling post. Round three was a clear Ward round. Ward landed far more than one jab in that round. He landed jabs to the head, jabs to the body, hooks to the body, and a left hook upstairs. He clearly outlanded Kovalev in the round as well. What telling hooks did Kovalev land? Hitting glove doesn't count. As a matter of fact, if there are any rabbid pac fiends in this thread, you can ask them to slow mo the round and count the punches. Ward clearly landed more.
Kovalev won round 3. Landed the best combination of the round and had Ward in survival mode. Better round for Ward than 1,2 because he wasn't hurt as much but he still lost the round.
If you watch round 3 and not round 2. then round 3 is a pretty clear round for ward. Kovalev tried to wrestle for some reason and ward kept on landing on the inside kovalev gave the round away and I have no idea why
Ward did back up but he was not outlanded or even out thrown. Kovalev tried to act like a boss by standing toe to toe but not working. Kovalevs best shots were blocked and in the last minute kovalev did next to nothing while ward was hitting and not getting hit. pay no attention that ward was down before watch this round on it's own. it's not a hard round to scored 10-9 ward.
You picked a strange round to get across your planned agenda here. You picked a razor close one. The only people that lose credibility here are the ones who say there's an obvious choice for a clear cut victor of the round.
