115-112 7-5 Kovalev plus knockdown. Ward rebounded from near disastrous start and did better in second half. But not enough to win in my eyes.
114-113 Ward, but could also easily see it for Kovalev with how close a lot of the rounds are. Far from a robbery, unlike the previous match which is a complete robbery.
Kovalev 115-112 If the 12th were scored for Ward, as the 3 official judges had it, it'd have been 114-113 Kovalev, but I thought Kovalev took the 12th.
115-112 Kovalev is the most probable outcome, 114-113 Ward is kinda possible, but only if you sway every uncertainty in Wards favor.
Kovalev won 115-112 I had (e)money bet on Ward too. Going strictly by punches connected and significant punches it was almost dead even. If going by that then the Judges would be 100% correct. However, Kovalev had more control and the fight was mostly fought on Kovalevs terms. On top of that Kovalev was a 3 belt champion while Ward was a beltless challenger form a lower division. You have to take the fight form the champion. I saw 4 KEY points in this fight that showed me Ward did not do enough to take the championship from Kovalev and support my opinion that the fight was on Kovalevs terms 1. Ward coming into this fight had 1 major weapon he has relied heavily on in all of his fights and was key to a stright line fighter like Kovalev. Thats the Jab to the body. Not only did Kovalev counter and shut down Wards jab to the body early but he established his own in the process. After the first few rounds Ward never even attempted that shot again. 2.Inside smother. To be fair Ward had a lot of success with this during the fight. But his success only worked to even up most of the rounds. He however failed to have as much success as he had in the past and Kovalev did a tremendous job of nullifying Wards inside work better than anyone in Wards past. 3. Ward spent a great deal of his inactivity in this fight trying to coax Kovalev into skirmishes on the ropes. It was clear that Ward and Hunter worked on counter off the ropes in camp. However, the majority of the time Ward was on the ropes Kovalev stood at the end of his distance throwing shoulder feints to pressure Ward. Never committing to anything before resetting the match back to the center and going about his boxing. 4.Wards attemps at enticing emotion from Kovalev. There were 3 points in this fight where Ward clearly attempted to provoke Kovalev into committing to an easy to counter skirmish. 3 Bolo's and 3 failures. The first Bolo Kovalev completely ignored. Ward wound it up and Kovalev wasn't baited. Ward got nothing done. The second Bolo attempted was met by Kovalev mirroring it almost instantly, causing Ward to drop it and move on. The 3rd Bolo saw some action and was met with a stiff cleanly landed punch. I'm sure holes will be poked in this and I may be able to do it myself after having a fresh nights sleep. But as it stands those were my honest thoughts during the match.
Didn't score but felt it coulda gone either way, Maybe Ward pulled it out. Fantastic boxer, Ward. both are Great
I'm with Harold Lederman and Doug Fischer, they had it 116-111 and 117-110, respectively, for Kovalev. 8-4 rounds or 9-3 rounds.
