I watched the fight for the first time last night. Kovalev clearly won this fight. Kovalev was the champion and Ward is obligated to win rounds decisively. He didn't. And Ward was constantly clinching. It is the way he fights. Not fan friendly at all. Kind of like Hopkins. If this fight had been fought in Russia Kovalev would have won 10-2 in rounds. Anyone who says Ward won this fight is heavily biased. Even Kellerman, who worships Ward, said Kovalev won the fight. When is boxing going to get rid of this BS.
Come on man put it to rest. Enough with he got robbed , he did that If u get a. A kick outta reading these threads go read some from last week. There are plenty
I thought Kovalev did enough but he wasn't robbed. It ended up a close fight with very split opinions. I hate the way every decision in a close fight now is a "Robbery" it's getting boring and shows a real lack of knowledge and grace. I personally didn't like the decision but I can live with it and also Ward deserves credit, he got off the floor and found a way to get himself back in to the fight and got the decision, he didn't score the fight so no blame can be directed at Ward, give the man his credit and move on. Also, there are some excellent posters on here that I always look out for and some of those were split with their scores. It was one of those fights that will always divide opinion when discussed so the hope is there is a rematch and we get a clear result.
I don't come to the site that often. I know it was thoroughly discussed. But I saw it for the first time last night, as I am sure many did. It is still relevant. The fact that some of you guys hang out on this site all the time doesn't mean it is not relevant.
Ward is not and never has been a fan pleasing fighter. And, frankly, I get tired of guys saying you know nothing about the sweet science anytime there is a "close decision." This was not a close decision. If it had been fought in Russia Kovalev would have won 10-2. To have all 3 cards score it 114-113 and all 3 judges score the 10th round to Ward makes the whole thing highly suspect.
This has all been discussed last week. Hopefully we re gonna get the rematch soon so we can clearly see who the top dog at 175lbs. Kovalev just made one mistake last week, he left it to the judges.
In a sport with judges who decide the outcome of most of the fights , it's rather troubling that a fighter can be faulted and somehow punished for "leaving it in the judges hands" judges should have someone to answer to and obvious bias should be dealt with accordingly . Like Kovalev seriously being credited with a single round (ONE ****ING ROUND) over the last 6 on ALL 3 judges scorecards. that right there should tell all it's a fact something not on the level was going on
Think about this, Kovalev outlanded Ward, his punches had MORE effect, and he gave him more damage throughout. He outlanded him in power shots, and even had more head shots against him, also take in to account the knock down and the occasional hard shot that rocked Ward. The only thing Ward had going for him is the jabs, and that is it, he was backpedalling throughout the fight potshotting and sporadically counter-punching with limited success, anybody that scored the fight for Ward is extremely biased.
Kova was robbed because there's no way he lost that 10th round which he could have at least kept his belts which he's entitled too.
