After watching quite a few Kovalev fights, I'm trying to find some similar fighters and fights that correspond with his style. Perhaps ignoring stance. J C Chavez versus Roger Mayweather, this seems typical of a recent Kovalev fight and outcome. A boxer, being taken out of his stride by one big punch and then hooked into a quick defeat. From Rocky 5, Tommy Gunn. Any thoughts?:huh
Yes, he does have his own style and it's a very good one. Heavy handed, yet he can box really well, great chin, good defense, excellent stamina...........too many think he is just a slugger, but he is a really good boxer/puncher who has everything. I really believe that Cleverly is underrating Kovalev. He thinks that Kovalev is just a slugger, nothing else. Cleverly thinks he can just walk through Kovalez. Cleverly also knows that his referee will favor him and esp. the judges................
Not getting into comparing style so will just say is that thus far Kovalev fights with the style of someone who knows he's going to knock out everyone he's fought against and have no trouble at all. Which he means he's been a bit upright with not the greatest defence or head movement coming forward; which hasn't mattered so far has he's known he's gonna bang the other guy out. And Cleverly is not underestimating Kovalev, he couldn't be taking him more seriously actually. Not sure about Kovalev though - anybody had a sighting of him?!?
There's no style to compare him with that I can think of. Maybe one day people will say, "Hey, that fighter's style reminds me a bit of Kovalev. Remember when he levelled that British guy inside 3 rounds?! What was that dude's name again?"
